Yes CC6 is still not compatible with PHP8, however Max is working on it.
He has workable PHP8 versions of CC6 at the moment, send him an email and he'll give you the link for it. There are still a number of bugs (eg Task Button's Dynamic Action and Popup do not work) but hopefully those will be fixed soon.
This is wonderful news. But, it's too late. I'm also getting tired of CF7 now and the lack of support. Upgraded to Joomla 4 on a test site and the form now refuses to submit and I'm getting tired.
Yes CC is written by Max on his own (hence the lack of support as it's a one man project) so the rest of us are in the same situation. Unfortunately we have not found any other component that is as versatile as CC for complex apps.
For simple form submissions, there are many alternatives that you should be able to find.
Some times I wish I knew enough about coding to join some open source projects. I am good at figuring out stuff, but my background is really out of designing.
To be honest. I'm about to give another form builder a try because I really need this job to finish by tomorrow, Personally I would prefer to just spend that $20 with someone here, even Max, to spend 5mins to look at my form and tell me what I need to do to fix it. But, if not, then I'll have no choice.
Wish I could help, but still getting my head around CF7 myself - my feeling so far is that while it's more organised, it is far less powerful than CC6 so we are unable to make the jump yet (and stuck with PHP 7.4).
CF6/CC6 is not fully compatible with PHP8 yet, but CF7 is. If your form isn't too complicated you could still try to make it with CF7.. we have done a few that works fine. Is there a specific problem you're encountering?
I used CF6 a while back, a few years ago and it worked out great and it was for a fairly complex form. But, the form I'm creating needs to run in Joomla 4 and PHP8, so I had to use CF7.
I test the current Package6 for CF/CC6 with Joomla 4 and PHP 8 online on the server and also the new version CF7.
Joomla 4 was reinstalled for the Package6 test and the package was then installed. After that, a Joomla 3.11 website with CF/CC6 forms. Downloaded the individual forms as a backup and uploaded to the Joomla 4 website with restore. The "old" forms work, depending on the scope, to about 70-80%. Some URL adjustments have to be made.
However, I will not test or use the version 6 forms now. The problem is that very extensive forms in the backend need almost 5 minutes so that they can be opened and edited. Unfortunately, I can't work that way.
In addition, my opinion is that version 6 also has many old code residues that are no longer needed.
Working with version 7 is a very large change at first. It took me a lot of time to get used to the sight. In the meantime, however, I have found that some content is better and easier to use. Against the fact that View and Action elements can be inserted with drag and drop.
Other content does not work for this.
This creation of the old version 6 forms with the new version 7 is extremely annoying because of the many bugs and instructions. I hope for everyone that the condition improves very quickly. It would be very nice to hear a message about when there is an update for version 7 or whether this will remain a permanent state.
I think the focus is to get CF6 compatibility with Joomla 4/PHP8. CF7 does seem to work, but due to the lack of documentation, sometimes we don't know if there are bugs or if we're just doing it wrong. I like the direction CF7 over CF6 - as someone coming from a designer's perspective rather than a coder's. But I guess the majority are more invested in CF6 and need more time to make the transition.
I guess we just have to be patient.
I believe with time, CF7 will be what CF6/CC6 is - but it lacks a lot of the flexibility that CF6/CC6 has for pure coding (eg unable to use PHP code for Data Sources, Loop/Repeater issues, etc). Unfortunately until CF7 can do what CC6 can, we will be unable to migrate everything over. And there's no knowing how long that will take - with PHP7 already outdated for almost half a year.
We'd rather CC6 be made compatible with J4/PHP8 first since CF7 is already functional and more of a "nice to have" while CC6 is a necessity for us.
