Import Chronoforms .cf6bak files from CF V6 into CF V7

mapme 21 Apr, 2022
Hi,

Is it possible to import forms from CFV6 to CFV7?
We have some custom forms with lots of custom code, etc, but they are not importing into the new Joomla 4 site that runs CF V7.

Any thoughts/advice? We have... ehhh... hundreds of forms!

Thanks a lot,

Brendan

Hi

No. It isn't possible.

Because elements are not the same, you have to rethink all your forms!

After 12 years of Chronoforms, I am rethinking the forms provider for our websites.
The upgrade from 3->4, then 4->6 in our case and finally 6->7 now. It's just so time consuming and confusing each time.

Other providers seems to have better upgrade plans. Not sure if we can go through another complete upgrade cycle with CF.

I also think CF6 was peak Chronoforms in terms of usability. CF7 is a horrific experience based on a few days of research.
I can't find where to bring in a custom code block?!

I am unsure why there is a need to recharge things so dramatically between major versions... small tweaks reduce the learning curve and - if similarly designed - may allow for form imports between versions.

Sorry for the rant!
Very disappointing CF7 experience so far.

Cheers - I totally get that.

I guess everything is moved around between builds and often subtly renamed... it's just very confusing to seamlessly move between each version.
I just can't figure out why there is such a need to dramatically changes the layout, wording, functionality between each build.
I do not know any other extension (J! or WP) where this happens so regularly.

My concern is that after migrating to CF 7 and spending a lot of time rebuilding forms, CF 8 will look completely different and there will be no update or migration plan available. I doubt I'm alone on that one.

I think there will never be a CF8 version!

So, there's no way we can't import 6 to 7? I have multiple custom forms as well and one of them stop working now. Also, edit with 6 is not an option anymore

There will not be a v6 > 7 importer, the one planned now is 6 > 8

Hey,
any news about the importer from 6 to 8?
This would save a lot of effort!

Thx in advance!

what are the features you are using in your v6 form which you expect to have imported to v8 form ?

Hi Max,

i have created an app with CF6 with different features:
    check validity of form values

create payment with paypal (not with the api via curl)

accept IPN messages and generate customized vouchers via TCPDF

    send vouchers via mail

    delete pdf-vouchers for backend users

show a list of cancelled payments

This is a huge step to bring them all manually to CF7 / CF8...

What are the "actions" and views you are using ? can you prepare a list of each action/view and the used features of this action/view and check if the same is available in v8 or not ?

if an importer is written but it does not have any of the features you use then it will break your forms

Hey, it would be more easy to provide the whole forms.
