Form name can NOT be empty!

busby 05 Jul, 2015
I have used Chrono Forms for years on my Joomla 1.5 site but I am struggling with this version on a new version 3 install.
When I check the form from the back end I just get a blank page and when I add it to the menue I get the message 'Form name can NOT be empty!' even though the form has a name.
Any suggestions please?

Hi busby,

When you say that you get a 'blank' page is that completely blank or does the template show but not the form? If the template shows then you probably need to add an HTML (Render Form) action to the On Load event.

For the menu item - did you add the form name in the Options tab when you created the menu item? Is it *exactly* the same as the name in the Forms Manager?

Hi Bob, many thanks for the prompt answer..

When the menu item is clicked I get the error message and the link to your site only.

I have now added the form name to the options and have also tried 'submit' in the 'Event' field without any effect.

Hi busby,

Please drag an HTML (Render Form) action into the On Load event in the Setup tab. That should display the form.

For the menu please leave the event box empty (or add load) - you do not want submit in there as you want the menu to load the form.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for your patience!

I'm really stuggling with this as I'm not a coder, but I have now managed to at least view the form from the design page, however I have a couple more questions if I may..

First, I'm not able to get any e-mails back from Chrono Forms. I have checked and double checked my e-mail settings and all seems to be in order.

Second, after submitting the for is it possible to return to a thankyou page, or if not, my home page..

Finally, I have forms setup on my old J1.5 site - is it possible to copy them over to the new J3 site?

Hi busby,

For the email please drag a Debugger action into the On Submit event, then submit the form and post the debug - including the 'dummy emails' results here.

Note: if you are using the Easy Wizard you can turn on Debug on the Others tab in CFv4 or the Setup tab in CFv5.

You can switch to the Normal/Advanced Wizard and use a ReDirect action in he to redirect the user at the end of the On Submit event.

If you were using CFv4 on both sites you can backup and restore forms between Joomla! 1.5 and 3 - otherwise it's probably simplest in the long run to re-build in CFv5

Hi Bob,

Again I'm really sorry, you must think I'm stupid, but I'm getting nowhere with this..

First, if I can say I have modified a demo form which displays if I 'Test Form' in the backend, but not from the menu.

I have not seen a field which asks where the form should be sent to only the main setup which configures the sending e-mail account.

I can't see any 'Debugger action' under basic or advanced in the form design.

On my Joomla 1.5 site I am using 3.1 RC5.5 so I guess I can't copy my forms..

Hi busby,

Hmmm CFv3.1 is very old now - you should probably upgrade to 3,2 as there were some bug fixes.

There should be a Setup Emails tab in the Forms Editor where you can set the To Email address.

The Debugger can be turned on in the Other Form Settings block on the General tab.
