Could not instantiate mail function

I have created a form which is going to use SMTP. I have the same values in the 'to' and 'from' fields, I have the correct SMTP settings and form flow does work as I go through to a thank you page which I specified however no email get sent. I also see a message when I visit the form page which reads "Could not instantiate mail function". I have tried everything but I cannot get a email sent to any recipient. I have tried to add a 'debugger' in the set up but nothing shows up, do I add this on a submit event?

Can anyone please help me as I am having a chronoform meltdown!!!!

Please check the FAQ that Prof Calculus suggests and this one too.

The TO and FROM Emails should **not** be the same.
