issue on istallation of CFv5

enumaelis 12 Nov, 2014
Hi,

wen I try to install CFv5 last version I get ever te same error message: Cannot connect to mysql (with a 0 before). I tried to install separately the 2 packges of CFV5 and i found that while cegcore installs correctly, the second package i.e. com_chronoforms5 gives the aforementioned error.
Note that CFv4 installs perfectly, as I tried after the failure of CFV5.
My system: joomla 3.3.6 php 5.6.2, mysql Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.0.14-MariaDB, for Linux (x86_64) using readline 5.1.

Any idea?

Hi enumaelis,

I'm really not sure, its hard to debug install errors since the process is managed by Joomla, I don't know why it loses connection to mySQL😟

Nothing I know, the error occurs during the install, and its about "connecting" to the database, which means that its not SQL error at some point, so I'm puzzled.

You may try asking at or searching the Joomla forums, or checking Google.

Thanks for your answer.

Actually I googled trying to find the specific problem, because CFV5 is the only one giving me this problem (CFV4 works), but nothing found. I'll try to search more and better. If I'll find something i'll post ere.

Answer
Well i solved the problem tha was divided in 2 parts.

The first one was that only one table (i.e #__chronoengine_extensions)was written to the database as I discovered bia phpmyadmin. So I unpacked the component and and checked the sql file (initial.chronoforms.sql and install.chronoforms.sql). I found, opening with vi that these files had the classic ^M character for EOL typical of DOS-like documents. So i changed it and tried to reinstall. I got finally the 2 tables correctly installed in my db but still persisted the message unableto connect to mysql.
I then examined my php.ini file and found that mysqli extension was enabled but not the mysql. I enabled mysql extension and now all works.

Sorry for bothering you.

Hi Enumaelis,

The 2nd table is added after the install, so I don't think it was the file encoding, its utf-8 without BOM which should work fine.

I will try to find why the 2nd issue was a problem here.

Thanks for posting the info!
