Override the Joomla Allow user registration

emmexx 12 Nov, 2014
In CF V4 there was an option in the Joomla user activation action to override the standard joomla registration.
I couldn't find such option in the new CF5 joomla registration action.

I tried to disable user registration in the joomla users settings and to use my registration form but I got a 403 error:
Oops, you've encountered an error 403
It appears the page you were looking for doesn't exist. Sorry about that.

Is there another way to accomplish the same result as in CF4? I want new users to use only my registration form.

Thank you

I found out that joomla (3?) has a User profile plugin to add other (non customizable) fields. Not as flexible as a CF form but I didn't find any other way.

I don't set the post as answered since there could be a CF5 way to accomplish it.

Hi maxx,

The suggested way to tackle this issue in v5 is to use the "Redirect" component in Joomla to redirect the default registration form to the CF form, since trying to override the Joomla setting will always require using a custom account verification link and action.

I was too fast setting the thread as solved.😉
I tried using the joomla redirect plugin but it is not working. :?

I don't know if the wording used in the redirect help page is verbatim but it says:

The URL you want to redirect from must not be a working one on your website which actually loads a web page.

I suppose I didn't get Max suggestion correctly.

Hi maxx,

Sorry for the late reply!

I didn't know that the redirect component has this limitation, you will have to find a redirect plugin or component to do it then, or you can use a chronoform to do the redirect, and add it to a module and assign to all pages in a hidden position on your site.
