adding CSS to a form

Sp Spitfire 05 Sep, 2014
Can somebody please post some specific information about using your own CSS file in Chronoforms 5? The FAQ about this subject is limited and does not provide the information that solves my problem.

As mentioned in the FAQ about this subject, i placed the path to my css file in the lower textbox of the "load css" action in the setup of the form, but it has no effect. I have tried serveral options, like the relative and absolute path to my css file. Does Chronoforms automaticly add the proper class to a form element? Or do i miss something? Is loading of a CSS file all I have to do or is there more, like putting the class name in the class and/or style fields in the edit screen of each element? Or do i need to edit each field class in the custom code panel?
I have tried it all and i have some experience with forms, html and css, but i am really lost now...

Some screenshots or examples (what to put where), or a step-by-step guide or simple demo form will be very helpfull and you will do me a big favour!

I'm using a template from joomlaplates.com.

Thank you!

Hi Spitfire,

What exactly do you need to do here?

The file you are trying to load is a template CSS file which is presumably loaded by your template so you wouldn't expect to see any difference.

I do think that you have to use absolute URLs for files in the upload files box (if you use relative URLs they are interpreted as relative to an obscure GCore folder).

Thank you Bob!

Unfortunately your answer didn't work out for me. I made a separate css file for styling the forms and managed to get it loaded into the page, but i can't see any difference, no matter what i try. I just don't get how it works and what i have to do to make it work. Maybe the whole Chronoforms/bootstrap/GCore thing is just too sophisticated for me, i'm an old school html/css website builder without any experience with the latest techniques that are used nowadays ;-) I'm gonna learn some more about that and meanwhile i will make my forms with the Bootstrap 3 Form Theme in Chronoforms. Maybe there will be a "styling your forms in Chronoforms for Dummies" in the future...

Thanks again!
Derk.

Hi Derk,

Please remove the first line and the empty line in the CSS Files box, you should also check the page source to make sure that the file is loaded correctly, then you may need to use a tool like FireBug to check how your CSS rules interact with the elements on the page, you may need to add "!important" after your rules for them to take effect!

:D Thanks! The !important declaration did the trick, and i use a forms.css only for my forms in Chronoform.

Thanks for Greyhead too of coarse, the solution was a combination of both answers.
