CAPTCHA in Chronoforms is SO unreliable. Please if you could give it a little more attention. Since the early days of Chronoforms there have been problems with its implementation of CAPTCHA, and they persist. Yes I know that there are many factors, but many of us have busy websites that rely on technologies like Joomla cache, and really CAPTCHA if it is to be any use, should just work. This is not a specific question, just a general critique. It seems I can test and test and all will appear well, and then I get a report someone will have genuine problems with getting through the CAPTCHA.
Hi hpinson,
Thanks for your comment!🙂
I don't believe its CF related, the captcha technique used is straight forward and is the common one, but some browsers may have tight security settings which may cause problems with users sessions/cookies, for this you may use server validation instead or reCaptcha.
You are more than welcome to post any suggestions about improving the current captcha!

Max

Hi Max. Thanks for replying . I have some specific suggestions.
Forms have to "just work".
The first is to get Chronoforms working and reliable with Joomla cache and template cache. Our sites are getting so graphically, css, and js intestive, our new responsive templates live by cache, and our sites so heavily used -- that now having cache turned on is considered normal/ required and 3rd party extentions that don't play with cache are removed.
Implementation of standard reCAPTCHA in the wizard would be good.
Alternatives to CAPTCHA are even better. I see that in Security question, but was not able to get it working.
I've not looked at V5 yet, and maybe you have worked out some of this. We may not move to V5 because migration between versions has been so problematic with many forms. Redoing the forms over and over because of a version upgrade really is not working for us. I've bought Chronoforms several times in the past for several projects, want to support it, but am hesitating purchasing again because of these issues. Right now I have CAPTCHA unprotected Chronoforms because user problems with the CAPTCHA happens more often that not, and we cannot afford the lost business of what we are now considering unreliable forms. I don't think I am alone in that here on this forum.
Wish it were otherwise. I really like your product and want to continue using it.

Hi hpinson,
Whenever the core Captcha is not going well, we suggest using either the reCaptcha or the security question, that's really easy to do, only 1 step more than the Captcha setup, the 2 FAQs below should help:
http://www.chronoengine.com/faqs/55-cfv4/cfv4-anti-spam/2573-how-can-i-use-a-captcha-like-134.html
http://www.chronoengine.com/faqs/55-cfv4/cfv4-anti-spam/2595-how-do-i-add-a-recaptcha-to-my-form.html
You can also use the "Check token" action in v4, and this doesn't require any extra form fields.
v5 has reCaptcha and security question fields, but you said that you don't want to upgrade now, btw, v5 is installed under a different name "Chronoforms5", and so you can have it installed with v4 on the same site, they will play nice together.
In general, Joomla cache should not be a problem if you follow any of the quick solutions here:

We would love you continue using Chronoforms🙂
