timeout when browsing to a newly created forum

clubaero 11 Dec, 2013
Hello Chronoforums team (Max? Bob?) – I tried to create some documentation for first time users of Chronoforums ( a sort of ‘user guide’). You can view the 'User Guide' via this link: http://clubaero.nl/User_Guide_to_Chronoforums.pdf
Unfortunately I was unable to complete it. I ran into a time-out when I tried to access the newly created forum in a Joomla 32 website with sample data.
I did not fill in the position parameter when creating categories and a forum – it was not clear what sort of ‘position’ was required. Could that be the reason for the time-out?
If I get Chronoforums up and running properly I shall try to complete the user guide….

Hi clubaero,

Thank you very much, I've linked into your PDF from a new FAQ here.

Hello,

Thank you for the nice tutorial!🙂

Could you please post a screenshot for your "users groups manager" ? or you can send it to me through the "contact us" page ? do you have any custom created users groups ?

Can I get temporarily admin access to test the issue on your website ?

And no, the error is not related to the "position" field, that field should only be used for "ordering" the forums list!

Regards,
Max

I have just used a basic sample j32 installation to test Chronoforums. I haven't changed anything apart from installing the Chronoforums extensions. There are no new users or user groups added to the basic installation. In the extensions manager I see that the user manager is 'locked' (it shows a popup with 'protected extension' on mouseover).

I would be happy to let you access the website backend (dashboard) if I knew how! The sample J32 website is running under localhost on my laptop computer, using Wampserver (Windows 7, Apache 2.4.2, Mysql 5.5.24 and PHP 5.4.3).

Incidentally - I notice that the screen display of this forum is truncated at the right side?

I don't know which forum program you are using on Chronoengine.com but I have added a screen shot showing my view of your forum with the truncated display

Hi clubaero,

Thanks for the heads up on the width problem. I can see what it is (the image display is set too wide) but I can't access the Forum admin to fix it. I've asked Max to take a look. Hopefully he'll also look at your forum question.

This may help Max to see why Chronoforums is giving a time-out when I try to access the newly created forum. I have included a dump of the database (named tstdb) in the attachment. As I already mentioned, I have made no changes to the basic j32 sample website other than to install Chronoforums, create 2 categories, 1 forum and 1 menu item...

Hello Max/Bob,
Since my last postings I have now succeeded in getting Chronoforums up and running on my j32 development site (offline). I still have no idea why I was getting the fatal time-out error on the version I tried to install in a basic sample j32 installation.
Anyway, I have now continued with my Chronoforums 'User Guide'. If anyone is interested it is still available at:
http://clubaero.nl/User_Guide_to_Chronoforums.pdf
Please bear in mind that I am not a professional web developer. My experience with web technique is limited. This user guide is little more that a document describing my own 'trial and error' experience of installing and testing Chronoforums. For anyone who can learn from my experience - be my guest!
Thanks to everyone at ChronoEngine for this software. In my summary at the end of my document you can see that I am impressed by what this forum software can do.

Hi clubaero,

Thank you for the feedback and the nice tutorial!🙂

I have checked your db file and the groups table looked exactly the same, so I have no idea why there was a fatal error but I have made some improvements for this section which should hopefully help in the future!

Are you planning to keep the pdf file link live or should I copy it to the website here ?

Regards!

Thanks for checking out my J32 sample db. I don't plan on adding anything further to my 'User Guide' at this stage. But I have no plans to remove it from my web domain. If you want to copy the PDF to a repository you are welcome.

Maybe some forum visitors would like to check the document and comment on some of the issues I raised such as the text expanding to the right outside of the content wrapper and whether or no Chronoforums can be used for a multi-lingual site?

I welcome replies or PM's on other people's experience with Chronoforums.
