Permissions Bug

devdave 20 May, 2013
Thank you for providing ChronoForums to the community. It is actually the only free option available for many people because Kunena requires mysql 5.1+ and godaddy.com servers are still 5.0.

I'm using Joomla 3.1 and ChronoForums_V1_RC4_J2.5_J3.0

The permissions settings are not behaving correctly. I'm sure that new users get confused about the inheritance all the time but I'm pretty sure this is a real bug. I have double checked the instructions found in a similar post http://www.chronoengine.com/forums/index.php?option=com_chronoforums&cont=posts&f=30&t=89037#p309386

I have all user groups set to 'Allow' in the Category Manager.
I have all user groups set to 'Allow' in the Forum Manager.
I have all user groups set to 'Allow' in the Permissions Settings.

With this configuration, I can use all the features of the forum as any group member type. However, if I set any of the user groups to 'Denied' in the Permissions Settings, all user groups will be denied for that option. For example, with the configuration above, I set 'Public' group to 'Denied' in the 'Make Post' section of the Permissions Settings. Now all user groups including super users will get an 'Access Denied' error when they try to post or reply. This is true for all the sections I have tried.

I really like this product so I am hoping you will be able to fix this soon. Let me know if I can help you troubleshoot. Thanks so much.

Hi Dave,

I don't think that it has any problems, maybe you didn't logout/login after doing the changes, you shouldn't set any groups to "denied", just set them to "not set", so just try to keep all groups to "not set" and set "super users" and "registered" to "allowed" under "Make Posts", that should only allow those groups and their children to make posts.

Max
