User Permissions in ChronoForums

david_harrison 05 Apr, 2013
Hi am using ChronoForums on Joomla 3.0.3.

Regardless of what permissions I apply to a forum when I go to create a topic, I keep getting an errors in the UI saying I need to login to use the resource, but I am logged in... I can see the Joomla login component showing I'm logged in as Super User.

Error is "Access denied, you are not permitted to access this resource, please login."

any ideas?

Hi David,

2 things to keep in mind:

#1- after any permissions change, you have to logout then login again on the frontend for changed to take effect on your user.

#2- You should NOT have ANY DENIED permissions, because they are inheritable and denying a parent group will deny all its children even if they are allowed, simply use "not set" which doesn't have the inheritance effect.

Max,

thanks for the reply but still struggling

I've uninstalled ChronoForums, then reinstalled, then validated this install.

I created a Category, then a Forum, and I notice that the default permissions should let a registered (even a public user )used make a post, but I can't

I keep getting "Access denied, you are not permitted to access this resource, please login."

Have I missed a step?

David :?

Max,

I can login in and post as Super User, but not as a user who is listed in Joomla as a "registered" user.

I have gone into the Forum permissions and tried, allowed, not set and inherited, all to no avail.

Max - sorted!

I upgraded to RC4 and all is good.

Can I ask a question? I'm just in development with my Joomla site at the moment, and it would be really useful if I could get an activation key for a different domain, if even for a couple of months. It's the same server, just to reach it from the outside while I'm in the development phase the domain name doesn't work!

At the moment my validation is based on www.jetboatingaustralia.com, would it be possible to get a validation key for www.mwaa.com.au:82 ?

Hi there.

I am having trouble figuring out how to allow unregistered users to view my forum, but only allow registered users to post content. I have set all my permissions to "not set" for public and guests, and "allowed" for all the others. The result is I can still post topics even if I haven't logged in. 😢
I'm sure it's something silly that I'm overlooking but can't for the life of me find it.

Thanks in advance.

Never mind. I found the solution. 😀

Please could you share the solution and permissions you use?

I would like:

1. "public" to be able to view posts but no post anything
2. "registered" users to be able to post and edit their own posts (only)
3. everything else for "super user"

I've gone a bit square-eyed trying to get the settings ring but I can't make a test-post event when logged in as super-user despite trying lots of different settings.

Many thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem. Everything worked fine after installing, then another user registered and since then the new user and I can't post. I set everything back to "inherited" but I still can't post on the forum anymore. I would be really happy if there was some help.
Thanks so much.

EDIT: I found the problem. I just had to register here and ask a dumb question and then it worked again. My apologies and thanks for all the support you do here.🙂

Any permission for any group should be set to either "Allowed" or "Not set", after doing any changes you should logout of frontend then login again!

I do not even see a login area on the front end. How is this set up. Do I use the Joomla login feature? Kind of confused.

Hi Jeremy,

I think that this uses the Joomla! User methods so I think that is exactly what you need to do.

Hi all, I have a similar but much more perplexing problem. When I am logged in as a super user or any user for that matter, chronoforums thinks I am not logged in and classes me as public. All permissions for create a new topic except for public were set to allowed, I then logged out and in on back and front end of website and tried changing everything to 'inherited', and 'not set' and done the log in/out on both sides of site and still could not create a new topic logged in as super user, I then change the public permissions and it allows me to post when logged in as a super user, but allows anyone to post without logging in. Joomla knows I am logged in and all the joomla permissions are correct but chronoforums just does not recognize that I am logged in whatever I do or try.
Please can you help I will be extremely grateful for anything that may help resolve the situation?
Max_admin 03 Feb, 2014
Hi James,

Just set "Super users" to allowed then save then logout then back in on the frontend, make sure that you don't have the "Forums permissions" setting enabled in the settings area or you will need to configure the permissions section under each forum!

I have set all my permissions to "not set" for public and guests, and "allowed" for all the others. The result is I can still post topics even if I haven't logged in. Also how do I change the time Zone? I changed it in settings to UTC + 10 for Brisbane Australia but still showing old time zone
Max_admin 07 Feb, 2014
Hi michiko,

It would be better to start a new topic with updated details related to your issue only.

If you change the permissions then you must reset your session, even if you are not logged in, you will have to login then logout, that will reset your "guest" session.

If you want public to view the board then set public to allowed for the view topics permissions and other groups to inherited.

Below are the screen shots I have taken on my settings. I could reply post using SuperUser log in but not Creating new topics even though few times log in and out. I am using Joomla Ver 3.2. (latest). What should i check further and can be done to make it works?
Max_admin 27 Feb, 2014
"Public" is denied and so ALL groups under it are denied regardless of their permissions, you should set public to "not set"
