J2.5.8 & Mailfunction not working

JBS 17 Nov, 2012
Just upgraded from Joomla 1.5 to Joomla 2.5.8 (with jUpgrade) and installed Chronoforms V4_RC3.5.1. Created a form using the Easy Form Wizard.

Submitting the form gets the error "Kan mailfunctie niet uitvoeren." (Could not instantiate mail function). Because I have read several topics with the same problem I have done the following already:

- From email is the same as in Joomla Global Configuration.
- Sending e-mail using AcyMailing is just working fine.
- Email template is auto generated
- Thanks message just contains "Thanks", no form fields
- Enabled debug: An email has been SENT successfully from (De Stoerderij)xxx@xxx.nl to xxx@gmail.com (deleted the real addresses)
- Just created a brand new form with just to form fields.

Non of the above helps, any idea?

Hi JBS,

You have checked all the things that I would normally suggest.

I've just upgraded one of my sites to 2.5.8 and checked that emails send OK from there using the standard Email action so it doesn't looks as though there is any significant change from 2.5.7.

You could try my custom Email [GH] action which uses a different Joomla! method to send the email.

If that doesn't help please take a Form Backup using the icon in the Forms Manager and post it here (as a zipped file) or PM or email it to me and I'll see if it works OK on my test site.

Thanks for your reply Bob. Just installed a brand new joomla 2.5.8 on another domain (but same hosting provider) and got the same problem. The system information of this (non working) Joomla installation:

PHP gebouwd op Linux vs8069 2.6.32-5-vserver-amd64 #1 SMP Sun Sep 23 12:45:03 UTC 2012 x86_64

Gebruikersagent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.11 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/23.0.1271.64 Safari/537.11

A few other 2.5.8 Joomla websites on another hosting provider works fine sending mails using Chronoforms. The system information of the working websites:

PHP gebouwd op Linux server60.hosting2go.nl 2.6.27.29 #5 SMP Mon Sep 21 10:20:38 CEST 2009 i686
Database versie 5.1.41-community

You got an idea if there is an incompatible setting on the non-working websites?

(I have not tested the custom Email [GH] action yet)

Hi JBS,

Nothing there looks like a problem. It's still most likely to be the site Email Configuration.

Just switched from PHP mail to SMTP (on advice of the hosting provider) in Joomla Global Configuration and it works now.
