Forms not submitting when using plugin

alsage13 16 May, 2012
I use the CF plugin a lot and I'm having some major issues with it with the latest version.

When you submit the form, it most of the time refreshes the form without the fields populated and of course, doesn't submit the data. When I view the form via "frontend view" it submits just fine.

I've read these two posts:
http://www.chronoengine.com/forums.html?cont=posts&f=5&t=76291&p=282493&hilit=form+not+submitting+plugin#p282493
http://www.chronoengine.com/forums.html?cont=posts&f=2&t=65518&p=264482&hilit=form+not+submitting+plugin#p264482

And taking from it I've set the Relative URL to No in the form General tab. All that does is: 1. break the template (it displays no CSS); 2. won't submit the form because it says the security code is wrong, even though it's correct.

Here's an example of the form used on an article with the plugin: http://www.worleylawllc.com/contact/contact.html and here is the frontend view of the form: http://www.worleylawllc.com/index.php?option=com_chronoforms&chronoform=contact

Any thoughts? Almost all the forms on my clients sites are no longer working because of this and they're none too happy. Help!!! (Thanks in advance!)

Hi alsage13,

My best guess is that the SEF URls are redirecting the submit URL to re-display the form and it isn't submitting at all. I don't begin to understand the ramifications of interlinked URL mangers :-(

The simplest fix in that case looks to be not to use the plug-in but add the header and one line of text to the form.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for getting back to me. The only way I can get the form to work with the Plugin is to turn of SEF URLs (well, turn off sh404sef, I'm not sure how it works with the Joomla core SEF) AND set the URL redirect to "no" in the general tab.

**Update: With the solution above, it submits the data and sends an email, but it doesn't save the data to the database!**

I must say, the lack of plugin support is a HUGE problem for me. The example page I referenced above isn't that complex, but I have forms embedded on several landing pages and other such pages where I can't just put text in the heading of the form, or even use the form module. Those workarounds won't work in these situations. It's frustrating because I used to use the form plugin on Joomla 1.5 without any problem!

If anyone has any other solutions or ideas, I'd really appreciate it. It doesn't sound like I'm the only one out there having issues. Thanks!

Hi alsage13,

You may be able to set sh404SEF to ignore CF links, I'm no longer sure how it works but there used to be some settings like that. Ideally it needs someone to write an sh404SEF plug-in for CF.

I've tried many combinations of settings in which sh404sef ignores CF forms, but to no avail.

I'm at my wits end, unfortunately. I either have to find a solution or have to find a new form component (which I don't want to do since I've used CF forever but may not have a choice about).

Do you think that a sh404sef plugin for CF will solve this problem that I/we are having with the CF plugin, or is that just a possibility?

I too am having an issue with using SH404SEF, and Chronoforms V4 with the Plugin V4 and Joomla 1.5.

Not sure what the solution is. Anyone get the above working?

Hi elehost,

I haven't seen much about this recently. I think that you need to set sh404SEF to ignore ChronoForms URLs and possibly also set Relative URL to No on the form General tab (click the form name link in the Forms Manager to see it).
