Want To Install Using ftp

Rev_Tony 07 May, 2008
Any help appreciated.

I am unable to install ChronoFroms using the Install from within Joomla! admin. We don't know why but I get different error messages however I try it.

I would like to try installing ChronoForm directly myself using ftp. I need to know where to put the files and I need to be sure the hierarchy is correct.

This is how the web site is set up:

http://www.[domain_name.org]/httpdocs/joomla/

Any help?

Hi Tony,

You can try the FTP or manual installer in Joomla.

You can upload the files manually - look in the upgrade version for the file structure, it's base on the Joomla root folder and files go in administrator/components/com_chronocontact and components/com_chronocontact.

Uploading will not install though, there are some database entries that the installer makes as well.

Okay. That's beyond my expertise. "Max" suggested installing from a directory after I extract but I could not get that to work either.

I'm not sure what the name the directory should be, and what the path to the directory is. Here's a copy fo the email I sent "Max."

When I extract the .zip archive it is put into a local directory/folder named:

ChronoForms V2.5 J1.5 RC2.1 09-42-12

I tried put this into the < joomla > directory but this didn't work. Also, the spaces in the name of the directory are suspicious to me. Does it matter what this directory is named?

I'm not sure I have the path to the directory correct. This is the current hierarchy:

http://www.[domain_name.org]/httpdocs/joomla/ChronoForms V2.5 J1.5 RC2.1 09-42-12

From Joomla! administration what would I enter in "Install from Directory" as the "Install Directory"?

Tony

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tony,

You really need to install this through the Joomla installer - one way or another.

Got to your Joomla install with a file or an ftp browser and look for . . ./httpdocs/joomla/administrator/components/com_chronocontact and . . ./httpdocs/joomla/components/com_chronocontact

Delete both folders and all files in them.

Go back to the Joomal site installer and try Installation through 'Upload Package File.

If that fails - delete the folders again if they have been created and them try the 'Install from Directory' option. Click the help icon for instructions.

Problem has been solved. Thank you for staying with me here. Appreciated. The problem was with our web host. There was something called "Safe PHP" turned on that was preventing the install. Once they turned it off everything installed normally. -- Rev. Tony

I am upgrading. I deleted the 2 folders as per the instructions above. I continue to get install errors.
The Joomla installer keeps giving me this:
Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "/home3/www/sitename/joomla/components/com_chronocontact"
Joomla 1.5.2,
Chronoforms 3? maybe?

I have about 4 forms that will be using chronoforms.

Hi beyoyo,

Check that the folders have actually been deleted. I remember that on one occasion I had to stop my server in order to delete the default.ttf file because the server had locked it.

Ok. This is definitely not happy. I have tried all methods as far as using Joomla to install and none have worked.
I will call our server support team and have them remove the directories.

Thanks,

Ok. I removed and attempted to reinstall. Again no luck. The Install page just goes blank, No confirmation page displays. When I check the directories, I can see they have been added, but nothing shows up in the Admin as far as chronocontact / forms anymore.

Hi beyoyo,

Are you doing a manual install?? If not, then it's worth trying. There's a short video tutorial here
