Chronoforms Wizard no longer works.

Form-ality 12 Feb, 2012
I am using Joomla 1.5.22 and have been using a validated version of Chronoforms for around 1-2 years (haven't updated since then.) I haven't created a new form for a while, and I tried to create one today. In short, the the drag options for the Form Wizard and Email fields don't work (on one of my two websites), when I try to drag a field, the only thing that is copied is the word for that field in simple text. The bug is not with Chronoforms, but with my site, as there are quite a few components/component features that don't work with my main website, but work perfectly with my site that has far fewer Joomla extensions. (Both use Joomla 1.5.22 & the same version of artisteer.) I am absolutely convinced that I have another component or plugin, etc. that is causing these conficts, but I have too many to troubleshoot. For example, I have K2 on the "problem website," but not on the other. Is there anyway to isolate what the problem is?

Additionally, I'd like to update to your lastest version (V4) for Joomla 1.5, but I don't even know what version I have now - I've not updated in well over a year, I'm sure. Can I just install the new version over it, and might that solve the problem?

Finally, I purchased a validation subscription good for 3 sites, but can't get the "working site" to validate, using the code for my main site - I've neglected to validate the other much earlier.

Hi Fi,

You probably have the MooTools Upgrade Plugin enabled. This is an optional plug-in that enables the MooTools 1.2 library on your site.

ChronoForms v3 (and many other Joomla! extensions) use the MooTools 1.1.2 library that is installed by default. The ChronoForms Wizard, and other back-end code will not run with the plugin enabled.

If you disable the plug-in then ChronoForms v3 should run correctly.

Note ChronoForms v4 requires MooTools 1.2 and need the plug-in enabled.

If you are using ChronoForms v3 and need MooTools 1.2 in the front-end of your site then there is a hack for the plug-in posted in the forums here that will enable the 1.2 library in the front-end only. However the ChronoForms validation code and some other features will not work with this version.

There's a fuller "How-to Document" here that includes fixed files that will let the front-end of ChronoForms v 3.2 work with MooTools 1.2.

You can run ChronoForms v4 on Joomla! 1.5.19 or later - but it requires the MooTools Upgrade plug-in enabled and there is no automatic upgrade path between the versions.

You can find the version you have installed from Site Admin | Extensions | Install/Uninstall | Components in Joomla! 1.5

For any question about subscriptions or validation of any of the ChronoEngine products please contact Max directly by using the Contact Us form from the link above. I don't know how Max has the product validation set up.

Bob,

Thanks for your prompt response! Indeed, you were right: I had the Mootools upgrade enable, and disabling it, solved the problem. Unfortunately, it created another: A very valuable feature of my site, PhpLiveChat will not work with the Mootools upgrade disabled. So, it looks like I'll have to upgrade to V4, which, if I understand correctly, involves the uninstalling of the old version (3.1RC5.5 in my case). Am I correct, then, in assuming that I'll have to redo all of my old forms from scratch? Also, would I have to purchase another validation license? Or will the old one somehow work?

By the way, I tried to download the frontend fix file (although I'll probably go the upgrade route), upon hitting the submit button, I keep getting this message: "Error: headers already sent in on line / stopped at line uri.php

Thanks again for everything!

Hi Form-ality,

Yes you would have to re-do your forms to upgrade to CFv4. There is no automatic upgrade. You can copy and paste over chunks of code and HTML but, in the long run, it's probably easier to start over :-( Because of this I recommend that you stay with CFv3 while you are running Joomla! 1.5

I believe that your license/subscription carries over but you'd need to check with Max about that to be certain.

I've turned on a setting in the document extension that claims to fix the download error but it's still failing in IE9 (FireFox and Chrome work OK). I'll struggle more with this later, I need coffee first.
