can't see the forms

Dmitry_tpg 09 Jan, 2008
Hi!

I've just installed this on J1.5RC4 and it went fine but when I selected the component from the components menu it displays a blank screen.

Is there anything I need to change in any configuration file for the forms component to work?

Thanks!

Hi Dmitry,

This is a known bug that seems to hit some installations but not others. Max is working on a fix - but it's tricky when the error is not replicable on all installations.

Some users have reported success in turning off GZip compression. Please try this and see if it helps.

Hi Bob,

Turning off the GZIP compression helped!

This has definitely something to do with that!

Thank you!

Kind regards,

Hi Dmitry,

I did some more digging yesterday and found a neater fix but it needs checking out by Max to make sure it doesn't break anything else.

Excellent!

I've also wanted to say that I was seeing error messages in the input fields about undefined PHP variables. I haven't had the time to look at the code but can send you a screenshot.

Kind regards,

Dmitry

Hi Dmitry,

Yes please, attach hear or send to the address in my sig.

Max has fixed most of these in 2.3.7 - you can probably supress them by setting Global Configuration | Server | Error reporting to 'System default'

Hi Bob,

I've attached a ZIP file with 7 gifs.

What's quite interesting is that I've just installed Joomla! 1.5 RC4 on my local machine and without modifying any settings I installed ChronoForms. I don't get any errors.

Maybe it's because errors are supressed as I have Windows, although I remember setting error reporting to all and notices in php.ini.

Please let me know if you need any more details.

Kind regards,

Hi Dmitry,

Thanks for these, I'll check them all through over the weekend.

I think that some of them come from an upgrade bug. After 2.3.5 (I think) ChronoForms uses some new parameters but doesn't initialise them for old forms. Once you have opened and saved the forms without doing anything else I think that most of these messages will disappear.

Ideally I guess CF should run through it's database in the install process and create the new parameter fields this for you - but it doesn't.

Hi Bob,

Thanks, I hope that will be useful to you. I think your guess is correct, especially taking into account that on my local machine won't display warnings for some reason.

Yes, the install script should definitely populate the database with initial values.
