Chronoforms - K2 - ZOO - front-end submission

gilliancowe 28 Sep, 2011
Hi,

Firstly this is a brilliant extension, subscription happily paid. With excellent support, which is really important, wish I could say the same for other extensions.

I have searched the forum but I'm still unsure of the answer so please forgive me if this has been answered before.

Can I use Chronoforms to set up forms to submit items to K2 and/or ZOO?

K2 has front-end submission but it looks like the back-end and isn't what I want my users to see.

ZOO has front-end submission which looks nice but it doesn't allow the user to choose a category unless trusted mode is activated, but trusted mode gives the user too much access. Trusted mode has all the options of back-end access.

Also ZOO generates the front-end form but I can't embed it into an article. My application has 2 forms but they are generated by the same PHP file so I can't add text before or after the form.

Just wondered if anyone has used Chronoforms as a front-end to K2 or ZOO.

Thanks,

Gillian

Hi Gillian,

Not as far as I know. There was a dicussion about Zoo about a year ago but I think it was inconclusive. If I remember correctly the problem was that Zoo creates new tables with codes names and it proved tricky to unpackage everything enough to write to them reliably.

In general the answer is that if you can un-pick the extension well enough to understand how the table writes are done than that can be replicated in ChronoForms. Sometimes that is very simple; sometimes close to impossible :-(

Thank you Bob that's great.

Yes ZOO does do things in a way that is not straight forward.

I have been on a ZOO learning curve for the last few weeks which hasn't been helped by the complete lack of support from YooTheme. I have also used K2 recently and can't decide which one one to go with, the integration with Chronofroms would have been the deciding factor.

Thanks again,

Gillian

Gillian,

Have you made any progress with this?

I am working on a site with Zoo and have run into the same issue with allowing users to select categories. I thought maybe I can build the front end with Chronoforms.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Hi Warren,

I'm afraid I haven't had time to look at it again. ZOO's method of storing data in the database isn't straightforward so you have to write to more than one table.

Sorry I can't help more.

That's ok. I will stick with using Zoo's front end submission. They just released an update that allows users to assign categories in non-trusted mode.
