Form Success but no email

marcodeluca 29 Jun, 2011
Hi there,

First I wanna say that way back when, I wrote a note about v4 being confusing and less intuitive compared to v3. Not sure if it was me that changed or the more recent versions of v4, but it's really awesome. Love it! So thanks.

Except, I can't seem to get a form to send me an email:) I've configured a few forms, one following the tutorial and one with a few extra things happening. I can submit a form successfully but I do not receive an email.

The form is published, I have 2 emails enabled - one using all static to and from etc, one that has a static TO: and then dynamic everything else.

I have error reporting turned on to maximum and the form is not generating any errors. So...what else could I be missing?

Oh, you can view the form here: https://worklabs.ca/index.php?Itemid=1207&option=com_chronoforms

Hi marcodeluca ,

Glad you are getting used to it. There are still parts I find confusing.

Please take a Form Backup using the icon in the Forms Manager and post it here (as a zipped file) or PM or email it to me and I'll take a closer look.

Here you go, and thanks!

(and, I honestly looked it over and over. So if it's something really obvious, be gentle:)

Hi marcodeluca,

It's working Ok here so I suggest that you check the Email Server setup for your site.

I strongly recommend that you do *not* use the Dynamic From Email element in your Email Setups. Using this often results in your emails being marked as spam and dropped into a spam filter. Instead use the static From Email with an address that matches the site domain name and use Dynamic ReplyTo Email for the user email. The result is the same but with a much better chance of good delivery.

hrm, interesting... I will check out my server. Never had problems with email / php mail before...

Hi marcodeluca,

Could be the Dynamic From is getting them binned as spam then ??

Okay, first THANKS for pointing out the dynamic / static from email. What you suggested was exactly what I meant to do - dynamic reply to, static from email.

Anyway, that being said I still cannot get chronoforms to work. If it was an issue with my server or php mail or something, wouldn't that mean the standard joomla contact function would also fail? Everything else works fine - standard contact, rapid contact module and other contact form extensions.

So... guess I'm just not sure where to start looking for a point of failure.

One other thing - this is on a website that's forcing HTTPS on all pages. Could that be an issue somehow?

Hi marcodeluca,

HTTPS shouldn't hae any effect on the Email sending :-(

By all means email or PM me the site URL and a SuperAdmin login and I'll take a quick look.

Well, strange thing now. One of the two email actions is now working. So perhaps you were right about the dynamic from email address causing problems. The strange thing is email action #1 that's working is sending the form data to a SaaS project management system.

The email action #2 that ISN'T working is supposed to be sending the form data to my gmail account. What's the difference, i wonder, between using multiple email actions versus using one email action with multiple recipients?

Hi marcodeluca ,

You've checked your Gmail spam folder I assume?

There is, or should be, no difference between using multiple To addresses and separate emails. The sending code is the same.
