HELP!!!!!!

Postby dexter » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:46 pm
I have a problem with the forms it seems that they work perfectly fine from my computer, but on other computers they don't work at all? I am pulling my hair out.

I am using Joomla 1.5 on godaddy web server. website is http://davidmccormicksenate.com/volunteer.

I was having a similar problem with form applications on Word Press on the same site. I just switched the site from WP to Joomla thinking that it may have been a WP issue. Now I am thinking the worst.

I just ran another test and it works on all my browsers (ie, safari, chrome and firefox) on my computer that I built the site on. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON!!!!!

Wow Bob that is amazing, I just got yours. That is a first.

The form submits fine the problem is receiving the data.

I get it every time I send it. Other then yours, I haven't got any others. I 3 people that I know of that submitted a form with no result.

2 use Cox Communications HSI and are using IE
1 is using Chrome on Verizon network

With me it doesn't matter on the browser.

Bob if you can help the next round is on me buddy!

Hi dexter,

Just tried 4 different browsers and all submit OK.

Please take a screenshot of your Email Setup and paste that here - or email it to me.

Bob thank you for the assistance. I finally figured it out. The problem is solved.

It turned out to be a Godaddy Issue.

I run another wordpress blog for a customer on host gator and tried the volunteer button on there and it worked fine. Bingo godaddy problem.

I contacted godaddy support and finally got someone that understood the problem, which was the following:

They (godaddy) changed security measures to cut down on spam by not allowing forms to process email addresses from free services (gmail, yahoo so forth and so on). And this change took place a few weeks to about a month ago. oh also it no longer likes variable email addresses.

So this explains why it worked for me 100% of the time, others 50% of the time and more others that tested it 0% of the time.

The fix. Wow, The fix was so easy.

The email address header can not contain those bad email address or a variable, so I set that information to be sent to the websites main email domain-name.com and the senders email was set to the same. So the email looks like I'm sending it to myself, but who freaking cares.

The bad or band email address and variable information is ok to have in the body of the email, so just have to make sure it appears there.

Unbelievable the stress this caused me.

Hi Dexter,

Someone else posted about the GoDaddy change yesterday so that makes perfect sense.

You should be able to get the same result by using a fixed From Name & Email matching your domain name plus a Dynamic ReplyTo Name & Email. Or are GoDaddy blocking the ReplyTo header as well?
