Are Chronoforms v3 or v4 compatible with Joomla 1.6?

spanners 07 Feb, 2011
We're about to do an upgrade to Joomla 1.6 on one of our sites. Has anyone used Chronoforms, version 3 or 4, with Joomla 1.6?
GreyHead 07 Feb, 2011
Hi spanners,

There is no ChronoForms release for Joomla! 1.6 - though I suspect that v4 could be modified fairly easily.

Does the team have an ETA yet? Even if it is ballpark.
GreyHead 08 Feb, 2011
Hi Gatsu000,

Not that I know of. But I don't usually know until after Max has released the new version.

Hi Gatsu000,

Maybe a week or 2, I can do this now but the main concern is that I want to finish V4 first then make it J1.6 so that I don't have to do double the work later.

On behalf of those of us who are running out of ways to fill our time, dare I ask how Max is getting on?
GreyHead 24 Feb, 2011
Hi nicholashg,

Apart from a few posts here I haven't heard from him recently so I have no idea.

Rockettheme is releasing a 1.6 template soon , jomsocial is releasing 2.2 soon which is 1.6 compatible and all the extensions I use have 1.6 versions so I'll be one happy camper when a 1.6 version of chronoforms comes out!

Hi everybody,

Apologies for the delay on this, I hope that we will have the J1.6 version ready by the 4th of March or so, however, it will be for V4 only, so please test it and let us know about any issues before I start creating the J1.6 one.

Congratulations on creating the only fully-featured forms extension that doesn't appear in the Joomla 'vulnerable extensions' list. This, together with Greyhead's helpful guidance has inspired both confidence and loyalty on my part.

So I hope all is going well with Joomla 1.6 compatibility and will not repeat the obvious question … no I won't, honestly.

A less obvious question is how Chronoconnectivity features in your development plans.
I had an almost fully developed site using CF and CC before deciding to upgrade to J1.6. Chronoconnectivity was an essential ingredient and I am not clever enough to mimic the functionality. CF and CC obviously come as a very useful pair.

So if J1.6 Chronoconnectivity is not going to follow on the heels of Chronoforms I might have to look elsewhere, but I really don't want to. In fact I don't think there's anything out there.

Any comment?

BTW, here on earth our days are around 7 days, give or take. Some seem longer than others, particularly those of late.

Hi Nick,

I don't know what Max's plans are for ChronoConnectivity but I expect that it will also get ported to Joomla! 1.6. The major part of the port for ChronoForms was the Wizard which is mostly in JavaScript and had to be rewritten to work with MooTools 1.2.

There is no equivalent chunk of re-writing required for ChronoConnectivity* so the port will hopefully be simpler once ChronoForms is done.

* Thinking about it the permissions section will need work to fit with the new Joomla! ACL.

Bob,

Thanks for that, it's what I hoped and expected.

I would urge Max to provide some kind of progress report, I know it's difficult.

Hi Nick,

I just noticed that there is a mini-version of ChronoConnectivity built-in to CFv4. The "DB Multi Record Loader" Action can get a list of records from a database table - and even (I think) construct compound queries which CC can't do.

Other features - pagination, user control, etc. are missing - but could possibly be added.

the image below is an article listing from the DB Multi action with a Custom Code display element.

Thanks for this extra update - looks as if much of the functionality is already in place, very reassuring.

Hi,

Exactly, as Bob said, the frontend queries power is already there in V4, so maybe Connectivity will be just for the backend stuff, I will be thinking about this, but of course I'm planning to have Connectivity integrated with V4 asap and J1.6 compatible as well🙂
