Hi tkhurt,
I think Max has been running some tests; not sure if he's found any big problems but I don't think so.

As 1.6 RC is out and 1.6 Stable is around the Corner, and I haven't been able to install Chronoforms under 1.6 now, it would be great to get know when we get our hands on a first beta/alpha which runs under J!1.6.
Either be it V3.5 or the new V4
thanks

hi mariokrupik,
That's one for Max I'm afraid . . . though at the current pace the 1.6 release could still be a year away.

Hi Bob,
are you only talking about V4 now, or even for the modifications needed to get 3.5 to run under J1.6?
I am asking as mostly all of my Sites are using Chronoforms, and I am trying to prepare an Update for most of the Sites, if the Update will work out stressless.
As you said in your previous Post, that you think that there shouldn't be any big Problems for migrating to 1.6
thank you,
Mario

Hi Mario,
The plan is to get V4 only to work with J1.6, but I don't expect J1.6 stable to come out before 2 or 3 months at the earliest, there may be a J1.5 version of V4 as well, work is in progress but it's not finished yet since there are many changes to the interface and the core.
Regards,
Max

Hi Max & Bob,
as 1.6 Stable has arrived a lot earlier as you might guessed, I believe that CF V4 is still Months away of a Release.
But as one of my Customers asking for updating his Site to 1.6, what Changes needed to be made to get CF V3.5 running in Joomla 1.6
I am only caring for the Basic functionality, no Wizard, only that I can use the existing Forms in J1.6
thank you,
Mario

Hi Mario,
This really is one for Max. I've downloaded a copy but haven't installed it yet.

Hi Mario,
I hope the new version will be out this week, but it has been completely remade, so don't expect any old forms to be imported, you may copy your old forms code only though, you will need to redo any other stuff.
it will however be for J1.5, and might not have all the features currently in v3.5, but I don't think this is a big problem since adding features will be easier, then it may take about 2 weeks to make it J1.6 ready (I still don't know what changes should be made), so a total of 2-3 weeks for a J1.6 new version, I wish this is not too much, I wouldn't upgrade to J1.6 immediately as well, maybe when it's 1.6.4 or later.
Cheers,
Max

well, sounds great so far!
But what about chrono connectivity? Any Plans with that? Or any suggestions/alternatives to that great tool to publish data in frontend?

Hi faktist,
I'm sure that ChronoConnectivity will come too. Could take a while longer though.

I'm excited with many of the new features Joomla 1.6 offers - the ONE and ONLY ONE component that is keeping me from using it in production is Chronoforms - as I consider CF to be one of the most important features to grace the Joomla! platform.
Switching modules over to Joomla 1.6 was relatively easy - as it's mostly changing over <params> to <fieldset> <fields> <field> - although I'm not sure how difficult updating components will be as I'm not much of a programmer. (Ok, I'm NOT a programmer)
I would hope you charge a little something for the upgrade (I'll confess, my wallet is out ready to purchase it) as I believe money is a great motivating tool over people whining that there isn't a release out yet.
In fact, I hope you make a poll to see just how many people would be willing to purchase a new subscription to have CF for Joomla! 1.6 - it's more than fair since you are taking time out to rebuild a great component.

I would be willing to buy if there is a change in features, but charging money as a "motivating tool over people whining" is a horrible business move and only a dishonest person would suggest something like that. That is the literal definition for extortion, a felony.
Before you suggest a great company break the law I would advise that you remove your company url. I'm sure most people will avoid you like the plague for things like that. I have never heard of http://woodlandsadagency.com but I will now know to let all of my clients avoid you.
Hey guys,
Cool it please. I don't think that anyone here is intending to do anything except encourage a new release.
For the brave, ChronoForms v4 RC1.1 for Jooma 1.5 is in the download area. It's not Joomla! 1.6 compatible yet but it is all MooTools 1.2 consistent so is well on the way.
NOTES: [list=1]it's not yet a stable release and is not yet full featured. Use on production sites at your own risk. It is a major rewrite and there is no automatic upgrade from CF v3 The admin interface is very different and is not obvious at first sight!! [/list:o]

Wow...I'm actually taken by surprise. But that also made me laugh!
Greyhead, you are correct - I'm trying to say that **I** am willing to pay for a new release the minute it comes out and that I hope that it motivates ChronoEngine to come out with an update to support 1.6
It's not extortion. I'm acknowledging that I don't expect designers and developers to WORK FOR FREE...
Gatsuu00 - Ummmmm...ok, thanks?

It has been three weeks since you gave the above time estimate. Are you close to having a 1.6 version of the new CF version4? I don't want to put undue pressure on you. We have a client who would like to have his Joomla! 1.0 site migrated to a 1.6 site and we would need ChronoForms to do it. I'm determining what my clients options are.
Thank you and keep up the great work!

Hi Dan,
Max has been off-line for a few days but is now back on-line and catching up with a big backlog.
He's working hard on CF v4, currently for Joomla! 1.5 with MooTools 1.2. This includes the main changes required for Joomla! 1.6 - I think that some minor code changes and a new installer package will be needed though.

Thanks Bob. Any idea on when the 1.6 version might be ready to use?
