Joomla! Extensions Directory Editor's Picks Nomination

ozneilau 14 Oct, 2010
The Joomla! Extensions Directory are calling for nominations for Editor's Picks.

I have nominated ChronoForms (see below) but was uncertain how to address the MVC Structure and JText selection criteria. If anyone can improve on what I've said below, then I'd encourage you to get a nomination in pronto! There is only a day or two left before nominations close.

It's easy to use but very powerful.

The User interface is well thought out with tool tips along the way to keep you on track.

I install this ectension on all the sites I build and so far have had no conflicts.
~ Response time to support needs of users
The ChronoEngine forums are very active with propmpt support and advice given to paid subscribers and everyone else alike.
~ Level of Communication with the JED Team
Don't know.
~ Active Upkeep and Development
New versions have regularly been released and development is ongoing.
~ Extension has full MVC structure to make template overrides easy
I think it does? Check here: http://chronoengine.com/forums/index.php?option=com_chronoforums&cont=posts&f=22&t=15795
~ Extension has implemented JText language labels which makes it easy to translate, or comes with a range of language files
There is a multi-language plugin available. Not sure if it uses JText or not.
~ Help Documentation is available for the Extension
There are useful FAQs on the ChronoEngine website that show examples and other help is easy to find in the forums.

Hi ozneilau,

Nice, I posted a much shorter version yesterday.

ChronoForms doesn't use JText - BUT it also doesn't display any text in the front-end apart from the strap-line. Although JText isn't explicitly reported there is nothing to prevent a form developer using JText in their Form HTML.

The MVC structure in the ChronoForms code is pretty weak. Parts of it are there but not too strongly. But again, ChronoForms has no views to be over-ridden by the template. It offers some basic CSS but both the HTML & CSS used for form and thank-you pages are completely open to the Form developer to use as they wish.

I think that you could also mention The ChronoForms Book in the documentation, it's not free but not many Joomla! Components have 350 pages of documents plus another 50-100 in the How-To docs I'm slowly adding for ChronoForms and ChronoConnectivity.
