Requirements list + license information

davewolf 28 Aug, 2007
Is there any requirements list I'm missing? (Like, e.g. the PHP version - does it all run at PHP4?) Would be helpful to add that to the FAQ section.

And, while I'm at it, how about clarifying the sort of license you get for the $25 fee. "Lifetime" means for an unlimited number of sites, right? Plus, can I use it for my own sites only, or even for those I create for my customers?

Hi Davewolf,

If joomla runs fine then Chronoforms will run fine, you may face an issue if you have Mysql 3 but you can fix this with changing the database type in the config.

Regarding the license, to comply with the policy we adopted since releasing Chronoforms, the 25$ is for "lifetime" usage at any 5 sites you like, so this means :

#1- you can use it at your own sites OR those you are developing
#2- "lifetime" = no renew or expiration after some period issues...etc
#3- 5 sites which is a specific number of sites, we would use the word unlimited instead if it should be for any number of sites😉

Please let us know if you have any issues with this!!

Thanks!!

This about the license also. I am assuming that this earlier post

http://www.chronoengine.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=37&func=view&id=520&catid=2#520

where it was mentioned that the license was 'opened up' for the $25 has been superseded by the 5 site rule, since that is what shows on the home page.

My question, then, is whether you might have any "professional license" for using Chrono Engine on an unlimited number of sites per a given year. This is what people like Rocket Themes (<!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.rockettheme.com">www.rockettheme.com</a><!-- w -->) have done and it makes it so much easier for professional developers using Joomla to work with customers.

BTW, this is an awesome extension. I am hoping that it will allow me to not have to learn the Joomla 1.0.xx API and delay that learning curve until I can use Joomla 1.5+, which is much cleaner code and has better documentation. I am hoping and thinking that your extension is good enough to let me do what I need to do for some time to come, until I make the Joomla 1.5 plunge. Keep up the good work.

Davewolf, Thank you!!

bkudrle, the main reason to sell licenses is to get a small profit from the component to help us continue working at it, unlike other commercial components which sell encoded code or trial versions we give everything and give you the ability to hide the link if you don't like it, so at special cases only you may need to get license, to comply with our all time policy as was always stated at the homepage or the 2CO site we will keep the license sold for 5 sites only, if you want to use it for more just contact me at the "contact us" page, I gave some users before licenses free of charge because they was building sites for other organizations with no profits at all, again the component is to help all joomla users, I won't ban it for some money, the license is to help continuing work, we won't have problems about this at all.

Sincerely,

I'm going to ask another question about the "lifetime" issue....as I am currently moving away from 3 commercial components that had supposed "lifetime upgrades" and all the developer has done with the latest version of one component is rename it, stress how he has re-written from scratch and we're not entitled to the "new" component.

You talk about lifetime "usage"....but to me that implies 'of the version you are about to pay for'....so does that payment also include future versions? I know that sounds a silly question, but I want to clarify.

Great looking component by the way.

Hi Philip,

We don't have any plans to change the ChronoForms name, we are at the top of the forms extensions, once user gets a license he/she gets an email with the licensed files of the current version, if at anytime in the future the user needs the latest licensed files for the latest version, he/she just sends us an email and mentions the name, email used at payment and we will send the latest version, this is stated in the purchase email too🙂

I hope I answered all your questions!

Cheers
