Getting Http 404 page errors

brigarkee 16 May, 2010
I'm getting Http 404 page errors in some areas of the admin backend of my site, after registering a new account.

I test registered an account. After it went through, I went into my email, it did show that someone had signed up, but did not provide any of the information set up on my form (I don't know if it should be at this point anyhow, but), I went into the backend admin area of my joomla site, and clicked on user manager. When I click on that new acct, it gives me this error page.

These error pages are coming up in a couple of areas in the admin.

The webpage cannot be found
HTTP 404
Most likely causes:
•There might be a typing error in the address.
•If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

What you can try:
Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

Go to and look for the information you want.

Any thoughts on this?

Hi brigarkee,

Impossible to say much from this but my guess is that you've created a user with no username - or something on those lines.

Sounds as though you need to delete that user than check your form code carefully.

If you are using the Joomla Registration plugin then the standard Joomla data checks will be run.

Thank you for your reply Bob!
Unfortunately it is happenening to any of the accounts that I had there before, ones that I had before setting up the chronoforms.... HOWEVER, I have to apologize because I left out 1 major detail.. I didn't think of this last night, but I changed one of the lines in the en-GB.com_user.ini file.
I didn't start messing around with it until a little bit later so I didn't think anything of it, and the language I changed was:

REG_COMPLETE_ACTIVATE=Your account has been created and an activation link has been sent to the e-mail address you entered. Note that you must activate the account by clicking on the activation link when you get the e-mail before you can login.

I changed that language following REG_COMPLETE_ACTIVATE=. When I registered a new account after, I got the desired result of the language I wanted, but then, not long after, started having these 404 page error issues.

Could this maybe be my culprit... could I have maybe touched something I wasn't supposed to?

Thank you for your help🙂

Hi brigarkee,

If it's affecting existing users then I'm pretty certain that i's not a ChronoForms problem (though it could still be caused by some weird data in the com_users table I guess.

I'd restore the language file to a known good version and see if that helps.

You can also check the 404 message both to see the exact url and also there is sometimes some useful info in the small print on the message.
