Hey,
I have a client I email daily. I am currently building a site in which I use Chronoforms.
When I test the email from the Chornoforms page - I get a message saying:
"Hi. This is the qmail-send program. I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses. This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
<clients email here>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)"
-----------
However - I can email them directly with no problem. The site is hosted on a Verio server (where their email is) - also wasn't my choice.
-----------
Could this be a Verio issue? I don't even know where to begin?

Have some new information which may help - though I don't entirely understand how this all works.
There are 2 different accounts with Verio. One for the hosting and one for the emails (two IPs)
If the form is looking for email addresses on the website account - where none exist because they live on a different IP.
1 - What might I suggest to Verio?
2 - Also - what should my "Mailer" be set to in the Global Configuration?
Thanks!

Hi cb1,
This really isn't a ChronoForms problem. If you are getting a 'bounced email' message back from the client's Email host then clearly a message was sent, and presumably therefore your Joomla site is correctly configured to send emails.
The most likely reasons for this that I can think of are (a) there's a typo in the client's email address or (b) there is some kind of spam filter or other block on the client's email account that prevents the message being delivered.

Yeah - I understand. Was hoping someone may had run into this before.
We tried a series of emails - all verio addresses but originating from the verio hosting account. None worked. All emails we tried from other sources did work. So it looks like a server issue. What a pain.
But, as usual, I Appreciated your thoughts - so I figured I'd toss it out there!

Hi cb1,
Check that the From Email address that is being used on the emails matches the site domain. If it doesn't that may be triggering a 'relay' spam filter.

Hi,
*** A warning for technical content ***
What is most likely happening, is that the email server your system uses, believes it is managing the verio domain you are trying to send to. Thus, it will not try to relay the email further, because it thinks the email should be relayed to itself.
Unfortunately, it is NOT managing this domain, and the admin has not created the various email accounts on this server (he/she should not, since this server does not manage the domain). As such, the email server thinks the mailbox (the part before @) is not valid.
It's hard to say exactly how you should set things up, though I belive you'd be best of using "SMTP Server" with the IP for the email server. Verio should be able to provide you with the proper settings however. Still, this is mainly an issue with the web server being poorly set up by the admin.

Verio "turned off" the mail account attached to the hosting package - thus leaving the mail accounts open in the account holding the "mail" (I think you get he picture.) I have yet to test it comprehensively - but it does work now with the test accounts we have tried.
So yes - I agree with your theory and looks like it is correct. To me - it would have been easier to move DNS to the hosting and then switch the MX records to the mail accounts IP (but - not knowing a lot about all this - I could be all wet.)
Thanks!

It is confirmed - verio emails are bungled at the moment. The site is on a unix server and the email accounts are on a windows server - which - while the initial problem is fixed - this configuration has created new issues that are, again, unrelated to the workings of chronoforms.
Thanks to everyone for the help though. Love using Chronoforms - rarely with Joomla extensions do you get reliable support within a decent timeframe. This has never been an issue with Chronoforms.
