Installation Problem - 500 Internal Server Error

maxfard 17 Feb, 2010
hi there,

i installed ChronoForms on my server once a few days back, and there was no problem. I am trying to install it on my server now again (with the same file & as well as a new download) BUT i get the following error:

"500 Internal Server Error
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log. "

What seems to be the problem?
what do i need to do to fix this?

is there a way i can install the component manually ?

Hi maxard,

Hard to tell - your server logs may give you more info. ChronoForms is big installation and can time out if the PHP memory limit or the max processor time are hit.

You can do a 'normal' Joomla manual installation by unzipping the installation package into a temp folder on the server and pointing the Joomla extension installer to the folder.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply.
i unpacked the file into a temp folder in my site directory. but i am not sure how to point to the Joomla extension installer.
how can i do that ?

Please help.
thanks.

P.S i tried to intall the package from my remote server, but i don't know how to install the unziped file from a temp folder.

Hi maxfard,

If you go to the usual Joomla installer page there are three sets of boxes, you want to use the second one.

i unpacked the component files into <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.mysite.com/temp">www.mysite.com/temp</a><!-- w --> (loose files)
i then went to the second box where it says "Install from Directory" .
i entered :
1. http://www.mysite.com/temp (did not work)
2. i also tried /public_html/mysitefolder/temp (also didn't work)
3. i finally tried my local folder path (did not work neither)

i also tried it with a packged file in another folder; in both "URL" and "Directory" window. but did not work...

what am I doing wrong?

i unpacked ,uploaded, but installation didn't work . I know i am doing something wrong, but i don't know what, because it did work for me before...

Hi maxfard,

1 & 3 are clearly wrong - you need a path on the server, not a url.

2 may be OK - but more likely that isn't the full path. There's usually a bit more in front of the public_html.

Look at the configuration file in Help |System info for some clues, or check your ISPs help files or control panel.

Thank you so much BOB,
It Worked .

Just have another quick question:

What is the "sef_ext" package ?
what does it do?
how do i install it ?

Thanks.

Hi maxfard,

sef_ext files are used to tell SEF extensions (liek SH404SEF) how to work with a component. There are some basic ones for ChronoForms but none that I know of are well developed.
