Imageverification size of text

I am interested in increasing the size of the imageverification characters.

I've gone into the chrono_verification.php file and changed $size and $size2 but nothing happens.
old: $size = 20;
new: $size = 40;

I also would like to know if I can decrease the number of characters from 5 to 4.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm surprised that you want them twice the size. Do you have 'With Fonts' set to 'Yes' on the anti-spam tab? If so then changing the $size should have the effect you want (though you will have to make other changes to keep the image looking sensible).

I think it is possible to change from 5 chars to 4 -- I seem to reemmber doing this for someone a year or more ago. If you hunt back thruough the forums you may find the post.

I didn't know that 'With Fonts' had to be set to 'Yes'.
