javascript problem with submit comment

hyperion74 18 Dec, 2009
Hello,
Here is my site, <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.inaltreparole.net">www.inaltreparole.net</a><!-- w -->, italian and english with joomfish. I have used chronocomments from the start (april 2008) without any problem, then some days ago the submit comment button stopped to work, and another javascript button on the site (share this on the upper left corner) too.
I haven't installed any component, nor module or plugin recently.
Today I tried updating to joomla 1.5.15, changing nothing. I noticed that sometimes the button still work, but only once in a row.
I wasn't able to understand anything with firebug, except for the fact that there is some javascript error I don't understand... I found the problem both with IE, firefox and chrome. I searched the forums and the web, but didn't find a clue to solve this.
Please help me if you can, thank you!

Hi Hyperion,

Clearly something has changed :-(

It looks to me as though the MooTools library isn't being loaded into the page. ChronoComments should do this automatically if Joomla hasn't alredy requested it. The MooTools library is intalled on your site at http://www.inaltreparole.net/media/system/js/mootools.js so I can only imagine that some other change in the template or a plugin is blocking it (sometimes Script compressors can do this).

Hi,
It appears that it was the CssJsCompress plugin, even if I installed it about three-four months ago and never caused any problem before... It was the first system plugin, but it also had mootools.js as the first in the javascript custom order..
Anyway, deactivating it the javascript seems to work again.
I installed it because I thought it could save bandwidth, but maybe now I don't need it anymore, having another hosting..
I'll try leaving it unactive and hope for the best.
Thank you very much,

Hyperion

Hi Hyperion,

Someone else mentioned a recent problem with this plugin though I forget the exact details. I wonder if it is trying to download a compressed version of the MooTools library from Google tools or some otehr source and the link is broken. It 'ought' to fail safe and find a copy from elsewhere but I can't think of any other reason for the failure.

Hi JavierPeppler,

I'm not very familiar with it. I think you probably need to look at the page headers in View Page Source and work out what is not loading; then check the plugin setup.
