Dynamic: what is it and how to use it

msm 06 Nov, 2009
Sorry for this basic question but the email tutorial doesn't go into a lot of detail about exactly what "dynamic" does and I couldn't find an answer eleswhere so I thought I'd ask here. I'm assuming that by adding "dynamic" to your email setup you can get results that the user enters in the form sent in the subject or from section of the email you get. For example, "dynamic from" takes the email address the user enters and includes this in the "from" section of the emailed form results you get.

If I described that correctly, one of the mysteries for me is how dynamic knows what form field to take the info from. In the email setup section it makes it sound like if I choose dynamic I will be able to select from a list of fields on my form but no such list shows up for me.

I'm sure there is something simple I must also do so thanks in advance for your help!

Hi msm,

Score 98 out of 100, this missing piece is that you put an input name (no brackets, no quotes) into the box of a Dynamic element.

If you use Wizard Edit to build or edit your Email Setup then clicking in a Dynamic box will show you a list of all the form elements to pick from. This option doesn't exist in the Form Editor.

My question is can I extend this so say I want a piece of static text before or after the dynamic portion.

eg: New RFQ for date_7

or

date_7 a new request

Hi Basstrup,

Yes, search on 'dynamic' in the forusm and you'll find a few examples.
