Installation on Mac OS X localhost fails

Lakestone 27 Oct, 2009
I try to install ChronoForms on my MAMP-server, but I just get this blank page in Joomla and nothing is being added to the directory. I tried installing directly from the directory as well, but then I get this error message:
* Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package.
* Path does not have a valid package.

Any suggestions? 😑

Hi Lakestone,

No idea - no Mac experience. The XML file is there (or should be). Delete both com_chronocontact folders, then try unzipping the files on the server and doing a manual install??

Should I unzip the the files directly into the Joomla directory? I tried that and I got no new component. And what com_chronocontact folders?! :o

Hi Lakestone,

There are two folders created by the installer administrator/components/com_chronocontact and components/com_chronocontact - if they aren't there that';s fine. If they are there empty and delete them before trying to re-install.

Don't just unzip the installer at random - please follow the Joomla instructions for a manual extension intallation.

If "manual" equals using the directory under the Extension Manager, then I've already tried it as I described in my previous post.

Hi Lakestone,

I found this in another thread

I solve the problem. In local using MAMP into a MAC OSX I must configure the cache in server>php>cache>xcache

Hi Bob,

I tried it and restarted the server, but unfortunately the exact same error message remains. I tried installing other components, and it works like a charm.

Hi Lakestone,

Sorry, nothing much else to offer. The only 'special' things about ChronoForms are (a) that it creates some extra folders and (b) that it's quit a big upload that can sometimes time out a server but the manual install should get round that.

Maybe someone else running on a Mac can offer a suggestion.

I found the problem!
I tried increasing the memory_limit in php.ini, and suddenly I could install ChronoForm using the package installer. I hope this helps other people that run into the same problem.

Thanks for the debugging help Bob!

Hi Lakestone,

Excellent - I didn't think to suggest that :-(
