From Email and From Name don't seem to work

Greg R. 31 Jul, 2007
I have filled in both these fields in my General tab, and still the from email and name are always my email address, and the name is Administrator. Can you help?

Hi Greg,

It sounds as though something is not validating and Joomla is overwriting with the site defaults (ChronoForms just calls the standard Joomla mailer class).

Please will you post an image of your General tab here (or email it to me at info at greyhead.net if you'd rather not post the email addresses).

Hi Greg,

I've replied to your e-mail privately.

It looks as though the problem is that you've put e-mail addresses in some of the fields that *only* take field names.

ChronoForms the takes the values of these fields from the form (all null) and over-writes the entries from the 'From Email field', etc.

Hey Bob, unfortunately, I cleared those fields, and the problem persists. Is there some part of Joomla or server config that could be affecting this?
Max_admin 31 Jul, 2007
Hi Greg,

If you put "admin@admin.com" at the "FROM email" and "Admin" at the "From Name", and cleared "ReplyTo Email", and followed Bob's instructions above, what do you get ?

Ok, it finally worked!πŸ˜›

Thanks for your patience and help.

For the record, I think that if the tool tips next to these fields were a bit better written, it would eliminate a lot of confusion. I am willing to help. If you're interested, send me a PM.πŸ™‚

I've been working at this for hours and while the installation went smoothly, I've only been able to get the software to send me two email messages and I haven't any idea why those two and not any others. I don't think I did anything differently in between. Also, only 3 of the 8 fields (same 3) in those 2 messages were completed when the messages were returned to me.

I followed the written directions first, then watched the tutorials then came here and this thread seemed the closes to my issue. I did follow Bob's directions and my screen looks just like his screen shot except that I've replaced the email address and name at the bottom as per admin's notion; no difference.

Also, I'm being sent (after I click "send") to my home page now (was not at on the occasions when I received email) with the string of data I entered in the location bar after the URL of the home page, separated by various punctuation; %, &, +, = for example. How can I put this right?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dave

Hi Dave,

Plz check that the "form action URL" field is empty ? and the "form method" is POST ?

Thanks, Max,

You were right about the Post/Get toggle; I was on Get rather than Post...I've been back and forth on that one. There has been nothing in the "form action URL" field, however.

These are the results I'm getting by email now:

from name
from email
subject Test 23
phone XXX-XXX-1802
address 1
address 2
Address 3
address 4
message Test 23
Submit Submit

So, that's a step forward. πŸ™‚

Found it!

After I posted that message, I looked and saw that the fields that weren't filling in had two words with a space in between. I filled that space with an underscore and the problem was solved. Now all my fields are reporting in the email. Sorry for the bother but thank you for the help with the Get/Post conflict. I appreciate the help.
