Forms that vanish in a puff of smoke ...

giddykipper 25 Jun, 2009
Hello all
I'm so new to Joomla and ChronoForms that it makes your teeth hurt. However, here goes ...
I made a form as per the tutorials, debugged that little beauty and duly changed permissions and set it all in place. When you fill it in and submit, all seems well - up pops the thank you message - but none of the emails specified (office@englishchess.org.uk, webmaster@englishchess.org.uk get even a whisper of the submissions thereon. We know these emails are working in the outside world - send and receive are all fine. All help appreciated - and do the Global Configuration settings of this Joomla site affect the sending of forms?
Even my address is beginning to feel like a misnomer (webmaster ...) but I need to keep my job, old Dreamweaver hack that I am, I've only had it four days.
Be gentle and thanks in advance

Hi Andrew,

First thing is to enable the "Debug" option under the form's general tab, tell me what you see once the form is submitted!

Hello Max - thanks for taking an interest
Debug threw up the following -
PHPMAILER_RECIPIENTS_FAILEDsophie@englishchess.org.uk
Please tell me what you think (and where this error might be lurking)
The form still went through to thank me after this line

Hi AW,

This means that your PHPmailer function may not be working fine, please switch the mail method to SMTP in the Joomla global config and provide it with the necessary details!

Once Sophie's email was removed, the following
* Form passed first SPAM check OK
* Form passed the submissions limit (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the Image verification (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the server side validation (if enabled) OK
* Form passed the plugins step (if enabled) OK
* Emails data loaded OK
* Form passed all before email code evaluation OK
* An email has been SENT successfully from (englishchess.org.uk)webmaster@englishchess.org.uk to tina@englishchess.org.uk
* Debug End
It simply vanished

So you get the email now or not yet ? if not then we really need to switch to SMTP, also, is this all the DEbug data you get ? there should be an email preview!

The emails still don't come, and there was an email preview as you say. We've tried SMTP too but it hasn't helped. The fellow who set up the website and everything else is gone, taking usernames, passwords and email settings with him. Something must be wrong on the Global Configurations > Email end of things, which he's set up to run through his company StreamUK, who deal with online video streaming and aren't a real ISP at all. We have some network engineers coming next week who will hopefully be able to break his stranglehold and get it all working again.
I appreciate all your help
Andrew

Ok, you may also try to use the "email to friend" icon at the top of articles and see if it really emails or not!
