Emails not sent

jvince 31 May, 2009
Hi,
Using ChronoForms_V3.1_RC5.0 on Joomla 1.5.8 with Legacy turned on, and PHP 4.4.9

Built a new form both with and without using the ChronoForms wizard.
Each time I don't get any email notifications of the submitted forms.
Also notice that on the email properties screen in the form setup, the 'Enabled' option is greyed out (see attached screenshot).

Any ideas what could be wrong?
Many thanks,

- Vince

Hi jvince,

Please check the Email Tutorial from the Tutorial button above.

Hi Bob,
I did read the email tutorial.
The issue seems to be with the 'Dynamic' fields. Tutorial doesn't cover how to set these up.

Just adding the dynamic from name and email doesn't work.
Resolved it by adding the field input name for each.

Now onto getting custom validation and saving data to work. 🙂

By the way, is my setup OK for this version, or will I encounter issues:

Hi Vince,

Oh - yes, Dynamic fields are in advanced tutorial which hasn't been written yet. One quiet day . . .

Your set up is pretty good, no big problems with it. The current Joomla release is 1.5.10 so you are a couple of security releases behind; legacy mode isn't needed for ChronoForms (but might be for other components); and PHP4 is getting very long in the tooth, probably worth upgrading to PHP5 when you can.

Hi Vince,

You mentioned "Just adding the dynamic from name and email doesn't work. Resolved it by adding the field input name for each."

Would you mind elaborating in simple English, for a dummy like me, what did you mean by "Resolved it by adding the field input name for each."

Thank you,
Peter

Hi Peter,

every field in your form has a name, use this name in the Dynamic fields!

Thank you gents! My form is now working like a charm 😀 However, the notification message which the form sends to me is marked as a spam. Is this an ISP thing?

Cheers

Hi Peter,

yes this is an ISP thing, you may have something in the email triggers the SPAM filter though so make sure your email is clean! for example if your domain is an IP...

Hi Max

What did you mean by "If your domain is an IP...."?

I am a newbie;thus, I will ask a lot of stupid questions. Thank you for you patience.

Cheers

Hi Peter,

I mean if your domain is in IP like 77.99.88.666 not somedomain.com

Hi Max

I got the notification email to work.

In a nutshell, my host provider blocks emails from the popular email hosts i.e. hotmail, gmail, yahoo and so on, when sent from my domain. Thus, I make chronform send notification emails to myself, using an email address that has the same domain name, with the real sender's email embedded in the notification message. Now, if I could get Virturemart to do the same thing.

Hi Peter,

Glad you got it working, thanks for posting the solution, I hope you can get the VM to work too!

Hi Max,

I had to teach Windows Vista how to search file contents in php files. Once I did that, I was able to locate the VM PHP scripts that I needed to modify. Now, I believe all emails are working they way they should (knock on wood).

Just PM me if any of you good folks have VM email problems, I may be able to offer my 2 cents 🙂

Cheers
