Upgrade from 2.5 J1.5 RC3.1 to 3.1 RC5.0 ??

sinemac 16 May, 2009
A friend has asked me to update her Joomla! installation from 1.5.3 to 1.5.10, and I noticed that her Chronoforms could use an update too - she's running 2.5 J1.5 RC3.1

Is there anything special I need to do to ensure I preserve her existing forms & settings before I do the upgrade?

I assume I have to uninstall the existing one and then install the new version. Will 3.1 import the .cfbak files from 2.5?

Thanks,
Scott

Well, it seems the answer to the question whether I can import the cfbak files from the old installation to the new one is 'no'. 😟

Fortunately, there were only a few short forms, and I was able to recreate them by starting from scratch, and using the cfbak files to copy/paste from, and to check the various settings. 🙂

Hi Scott,

Before doing the upgrade backup all of the forms using the Backup icon on the Forms Manager toolbar (you have to do them one at a time). And take a backup copy of the whole database (all the Chrono data is in the jos_chrono. . . tables).

Upgrade Joomla. Check that all is well, then I think that you can install the Current ChonoForms release over the top of the existing installation (the notes on the Download page should confirm this). Uninstall the ChronoForms Plugin/Mambot and Module and re-install the latest versions. version numbers of the Component, Plugin/Mambot and Module should match up.

Restore your forms from the backup copies if necessary, again using the Restore icon on the Forms Manager toolbar.

Everything should then be OK except for any custom php in the forms. There have been several changes in the ChronoForms code framework and some variable names have changed. If there is any problem post the code here and Max (hopefully) can tell you what the new variables are. If not we can dig out the appropriate new code.

@GreyHead, thanks so much for giving that step-by-step upgrade process. Very helpful. I just upgraded from 2.5 J1.5 RC2 to RC5 without trouble. I did have to uninstall and reinstall the component and plugin, but that was noted on the download page.
