Download file and redirect on submit

I've tried the search function but i couldn't find anything.

I want users to be able to download a file and then be redirected to the homepage after they click on the form submit button. The actual order is not important but being able to do both is.

Example:
1. User fills out form
2. User clicks submit
3. Download box pops up
4. User is redirected to homepage

I'm using joomla 1.0

try to google "download file on form submit PHP", maybe you will get some ideas, I didn't do this before! you may change the header to show a download box but not sure if you can redirect to home page after that!
