I was trying to install Chronoform (3.1 RC2) on my production site with Joomla 1.5, but was unable to do so... After a long time when I click the "Install" button, the following error message appears :
* JInstaller::install: Erreur SQL. DB function failed with error number 2006
MySQL server has gone away SQL=DELETE FROM `jos_components` WHERE `option` = 'com_chronocontact';
SQL =
DELETE FROM `jos_components` WHERE `option` = 'com_chronocontact';
* Composant Installation: Erreur SQL. DB function failed with error number 2006
MySQL server has gone away SQL=DELETE FROM `jos_components` WHERE `option` = 'com_chronocontact';
SQL =

* Error Loading ModulesMySQL server has gone away SQL=SELECT id, title, module, position, content, showtitle, control, params FROM jos_modules AS m LEFT JOIN jos_modules_menu AS mm ON mm.moduleid = m.id WHERE m.published = 1 AND m.access <= 2 AND m.client_id = 1 ORDER BY position, ordering
Any Idea of what it is, and what should I do to fix that up ?
This is a database connection problem - we've seen it before with GoDaddy hosting :-(
The sql in ChronoForms installation isn't anything special, it just creates a few small tables. You can do it by hand if the rest of the installation has gone OK, the code is in administrator/components/com_chronocontact/chronocontact.xml
Bob
I think this is because of the large size of the package, please see if this will help and let me know:

I didn't get why it would'nt work on my production site because both this one and my test site are on the same host (Infomaniak)
I guess it was because yesterday the servers where too heavily charged...
BUT : If the installation goes well, I'm unable to access to the module page, because of the following error displayed (it's in french so I'll try to translate the best I can)
Error of content encoding
The page that you are trying to see cannot be displayed because it uses a compression type that is invalid or not supported
Any Idea of what it mean ? Is it related to the previous problem ?
When I've tried to do what Max suggested on the other topic (removing the TinyMCE folder), another error display :
* JFTP::write: Bad response
* Unable to write entry
I really hope I'll not have to install that manually, because I'm worse in SQL than in PHP (just to let you know how serious it is 😛 )
Basically, but unhelpfully! I suggest that you change host.
These sound like permission problems now :-(
Try manually installing ChronoForms, it's simple enough - see the video here

Hi Bob !
Well, changing host is one thing I don't want to do : infomaniak is one of the best hosting service out there, and I've never have problem with them before... I'll try to call them to see if they can find a solution, and if all else fail, I'll try to install that manually with the help of your video.
Thanks for your help !
Dushan
But after the install, when I try to go to the Chronoform pannel, the same error message displays :
Error of content encoding
The page that you are trying to see cannot be displayed because it uses a compression type that is invalid or not supported (translation of french)
Which leads me to think that it is not related to the host is that the install goes without problems on my test website, and that my test website and my production site are both on the same host, under different domain names...
Any idea of what should I do now ?
Thanks in advance !
Dushan
Try turning off GZip compression for the site, this is an occasional problem with ChronoForms.
If that doesn't help - talk to your ISP to find out what is different between the two site setups.

Alleluia !!!
You really deserve your little pot-de-vin from Switzerland ! 😀
Is there a way to tweak Chronoform to make it compatible with Gzip compression ?
And in a more global way, what do you specialists think about Gzip ? I've read that it is usefull to turn it on, but I'm not competent enough about Joomla to understand how and why...
Max is still working on hunting down the GZip problem but it seems to be elusive.
GZip makes a bit of difference to the download speed of your site pages, and a bit more difference to your bandwidth consumption. For an average site these aren't going to be significant.
Bob
if you can offer a test site to fix the GZip problem then please do, I tested this on all my local machines with different systems and I can't regenerate the error!

Do you mean that you would need my test website to simulate the error ? I guess you'll also need the FTP access ?
Well, If you can guarantee I'll still be able to work on it myself, I'll gladly lend you the test site...
Or what I can do is to create a clone of my test website and give you full access, that way there will be no interferances between both our work... I can easily do that with Joomlapack, and I have enough space on my host to do that, it will just need a little time for me to install it...
Please let me know...
either way is fine, faster is better, all my work will be on the Chronoforms files, so no interference should happen unless you add/edit forms! 🙂
Thanks!!

Ok. I'll prepare that tomorrow, and send you all the data by PM...
