Change display of Record id in "Show saved data"?

moontear 27 Jan, 2008
Hello there,

I was wondering if it is possible to change the display of the column Record id when clicking on Show saved data?

I am not happy with the "Record 0, Record 1, Record 2" etc. as there are already ID numbers in the first columns.

I would like to be able to populate these links with data from the forms (e.g. names from field first_name.

I guess it is possible, I just don't know where to look and what to change ;-)

Cheers

Hi Dennis,

You can change the name used for the 'Record #' field in the forms manager. I'm not sure what you mean by 'there are already id numbers in the first columns'. I think ChronoForms only creates a single id field.

I'm on the road right now and don't have access to my test site so can't give a more specific answer.

I just meant the continous numbering, the column titled "#".

I found what you meant under "DataView fields". It works like a charm putting "first_name" under Extra dataview columns field names. I now have a table with an extra first name. BUT:
In the information for Main string ref. it says I can use a field name sourrounded by curly brackets {}. If I go for "{first_name}" it does NOT output the first name, but literally {first_name}, which is weird, because in the extra dataview columns it works.

Hi moontear (and all),

I'm in London on my laptop at the moment and don't have a test system accessible. I have to go visit my wife in hospital this afternoon, hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to install a new setup and go back to dig into some of the more tricky questions.

In other words, I don't remember the interface well enough to know what you can and can't do here without going to take a look.

I hope your wife is all well. You better take care of her instead of hanging around on the site and answering non-important posts ;-)
This is a non-pressing issue, answer whenever you can.

Did this ever get addressed? It doesn't work for me either. Whatever I put in the "Main String Ref" is treated exactly like a string--ie {name} displays the string "{name}" for every record in the column which is still named "Record id."

thanks!

PS I LOVE ChronoForms! One of the best $25 I ever spent. :*)

Hi Hilary,

Welcome and thanks.

Try using the field name without brackets or quotes.

Hi Bob,

I had already tried that, and everything I could think of--except quotes, which I just tried and also don't work. It backslashes out certain symbols (like quotes) but the whole string still ends up displaying, and the column title never changes. #n is the only thing that results in dynamic content: the record number. Thanks for any light you can shed!

Hi Hilary,

for the "main link" to the record, you cant add a dynamic data field here, means that if your table has a column "name", you can use it and load the "name" value of every record, you can do this for the extra columns though!

OK... you should maybe change the documentation then. The information mouseover says

Enter a text string to replace the default record title - Record #n where #n will show the record number. You can also use a {fieldname} like this in curly brackets.

To me that reads like you can customize the field... even if that's not what it means, aren't the curly brackets a red herring? They don't do anything as far as I can tell. Maybe something like:

Only the record number can display dynamically in this field, but you can change the text string--for example,"PO Number #n."

Is that an accurate depiction of what it does?

Thanks so much!

Hi Hilary,

yes that's it, I will add this quick feature to RC3 if possible!🙂
