sending a thank you email

keithstanley 19 Feb, 2009
My forms are working great thanks to the great tutorials and help from the forum, thanks everyone.

I would like to add a thank you email to my form which would be sent once the submit button is clicked. I have already redirected them to a thank you page on the site but I wonder is it possible to do this with ChronoForms. Anyone got the answer?

Thanks

Hi KeithStanley,

Assuming that you are using ChronoForms 3.0 or 3.1 add an Email Setup then a corresponding Email Template. Use a Dynamic To in the Setup and put the name of the form field with the user's name in it (no brackets or quotes).

Hya Bob,

Please be patien with me Bob, I am new to forms in general and ChronoForms in particular.

Do you mean that I would create a new email to go out? Also I thought that I had read that the Dynamic options did not work? I tried to use the Dynamic Email option to show the email address of the person who completed the form, however this did not work. Have I misunderstood how to use the Dynamic option?

Besides the great tutorials you did is the a manual anywhere that I could download? This might save me a lot of questions.
Thanks for your great help!

Hi KeithStanley,

In CF versions 3.0 and 3.1 the Dynamic To, Dynamic Subject and Dynamic From Name all work with no problems.

Dynamic CC & BCC both work but if your site email is set to use PHP Mailer there are generic problems wic CC & BCC in emails (nothing to do with ChronoForms).

Dynamic From Email works but frequently causes problems with emails being labelled as spam so I recommend that it is not used (again nothing to do with ChronoForms).

I'm afraid that there is no manual - maybe one day . . . meanwhile keep asking the questions.

hello, i've done all the steps for making a dynamic to. (Put the dynamic to, filled with the text field) but having no success. I got the "to" email (xxx@gmail.com), but not the "dynamic to"mail (xxx@hotmail.com)

My joomla mail configuration is PHP.

Here's my debug :

$_POST array: Array ( [text_4] => laura [text_10] => marquez [text_5] => xxx@hotmail.com [text_6] => 2345678 [text_7] => 9875433 [text_8] => parque a la nada [text_11] => 234567 [check0] => Array ( [0] => L05SD ) [check1] => Array ( [0] => TURQUESA ) [text_9] => fefefefefefef [9c66023bcd4b3002c24c56d28520f58e] => 1 )

$_FILES array: Array ( )

From: ventas [mydoiman@domain.com]
To: xxx@gmail.com, xxx@hotmail.com
CC:
BCC:
Subject: Hoja de pedido

Hi raspjam,

That all looks OK. Have you cheked the spam folders en route?

Try it with a known good email address that isn't hotmail, yahoo aol or livemail please.

hi,

thanks for the quick reply. I tried what you suggest and send an email from a gmail account. The mail went to the spam folder. But in the case of hotmail, it didn't came at all.
I'm really concerned because in my country almost everyone uses hotmail.

Is there anything i can do?

Hi raspjam,

Ok - so we're sure that ChronoForms and the site are sending emails, but it seems that hotmail are marking them as spam.

The most likely reason is that the 'From Email' (or the Reply To Email') have domains that don't match the site domain.

No, chronoforms and the site are only sending mails to gmail (that goes to it's spam folder) BUT NOT TO HOTMAIL (the e-mail doesn't appear in the spam folder in hotmail or anywhere).

And the "from e-mail" has a domain that matches the site domain.

Here's my mail setup:

To: xxx@gmail.com

Dynamic To: text_5

Subject: hoja de pedido

Fromname: ventas

FromEmail: xxx@mydomain.com

Maybe my "TO:" has to be a domain mail as well?

Hi raspjam,

ChronoForms does absolutely nothing to check email addresses or domains. It if's sending OK to Gmail, and you get a SENT OK message in the Debug report when you send to Hotmail them something is happening after the email leaves ChronoForms.

You might check the forums here - I think someone reported a problem with Livemail - and possibly Hotmail too, but I don't remember what the cause was.
