Editing a Form

keithstanley 12 Feb, 2009
I have just today successfully configured and setup my first form! As always once you have done it a few times you realise how easy it is.
However I am having trouble editing the form...........
I have downloaded and printed out all the tutorial pages produced by Greyhead, very well produced by the way, and I am not able to edit my form once it has been created.
I select the form and the click edit and for the briefest moment I do get a flash of where I believe I should be able edit the for but then it is gone and all I get is multiple tab listing. Everything else seems to be working, I think. The actual form on the website does work.

I am using ChronoForm 3.0 on a Joomla 1.5.7 installation and I get the same result if I try on my Windows XP of iMac.
Can anyone help?

Thanks for a great tool with very clear instructions!

Hi Keith,

Where are you clicking to edit? You can't re-use the Wizard but you should be able to edit the Form HTML in the Form Code tab. If you don't see it there click on the blue +- sign and the window *should* open.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have clicked on the Form HTML option in the Form Code tab using the blue +/- symbol and I does in fact show me the Html code which I can alter. Thanks
However, and I am sorry to persist but what is happening with that very quick flash of another "Edit" screen which flashes by when I select the form I wish to edit and the click on the Edit option on the top right hand side of the screen? I am clicking on the Edit option which is between the Copy Form and Delete option. Is that very fast flash normal of is there something wrong with my installation or what?

Hi Keith,

I'm really not sure - the Edit button ( and the other icons on the toolbar) work when you have selected the check-box by one of the form names. I've never seen it flash so I'm having trouble imagining what might be happening :-(

Hi Keith,

as long as you have the tabs with all data after a short while then all is ok, the page takes few seconds to load the editor and other data the first time, nothing buggy, its only a browser stuff!

Thanks to both of you. I have had a really good read of your tutorials and I can see how I am supposed to Edit an existing form.

Can someone suggest how I can edit an existing form using a drag and drop interface such as the wizard?

I'm not experienced enough to work with the html code.

Hi cousinjay,

Inside ChronoForms you can't use the Wizard on a form unless it was created with the Wizard and it's hasn't been edited by hand afterwards (actually you just lose the manual edits).

The easy way is to re-create the form using the wizard - you might need to change a few field names.

OK, I tried the form wizard on a form that was created with the wizard and had not been edited.

From the Forms management, I clicked on forms wizard and received an empty box. I tried putting a tick next to the form name, as well as clicking on the wizard tab after opening the form. All attempts gave me nothing more than an empty box.

If I understand you second suggestion, are you saying I need to start from scratch? That seem like a pretty tedious option if I need to change a couple of fields out of say a dozen.

Hi cousinjay,

You can create a form using the Form Wizard link - to edit an existing form use the Wizard Edit icon on the toolbar.

I knew that button was there somewhere. Hidden in plain sight.

Thanks for the help.
