Spam problem -- bypassing required fields

bobjones 15 Jan, 2009
Hello. I have been using ChronoForms for a while now and it's a great product. I am running into something, though, that I never addressed before even though it has been happening ever since I installed this form. Previous to this it was a minor issue, but it appears to be a growing problem.

The form has a number of required fields. However, I am now getting 30+ submissions a day that are obviously spam, and in all of those, some of the required fields (usually the same fields) are blank. I am running Joomla! 1.0.15. (How do I check the ChronoForms version?)

Please let me know what information I need to troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks!

Hi bobjones,

You should be able to check the version from the Installation list in the Site Admin (though Max wasn't 100% reliable in updating the xml file). There have been no updates to ChronoForms for Joomla 1.0.x for several months now and I don't think any more are planned.

I don't know how the required fields are being bypassed, quite likely the spambots don't have JavaScript enabled . . . or they just post direct to the submit url.

Adding imageverification captcha should block this. Or, if you can upgrade to Joomla 1.5, the latest ChronoForms supports server side validation.

Thanks! Will look at both those alternatives.
