Where is this 'Special Fields' tab I keep reading about?

ryanjkirk 09 Oct, 2008
I'm trying to use special fields in the 'Dynamic CC', 'Dynamic FromName', and 'Dynamic FromEmail' fields, but nothing is showing up. It's not saying {fromname} or anything, in fact the email isn't from anybody, and for the {fromemail}, it just has the server's host name. I'm using the code verbatim from the advanced tutorial, and I know it is working correctly because it displays correctly in the body of the email.

However, I'm reading a lot of stuff about the "special fields" tab, both on the tutorial and in the forums. Where is this? I don't seem to have this. Is this why my the email from name and email aren't being customized? Can anyone take a screenshot of this to show what it looks like and where it is?

One other issue that might be related: In the 'Setup Emails' tab, where you define all of the above, nothing happens when I click apply. It turns green and seems to save, but I don't get any wizard like the tooltips suggest. Any help would be greatly appreciated!I'm on Joomla 1.5.7.

Thank you.

Hi ryanjkirk,

'Special Fields' have been replaced by the Dynamic field options in v3.0

I think that to use Dynamic fields you need to put just a field name in the box - withotu curly brackets.

Well, that certainly did the trick! I had curly brackets in there, per the tutorial. Took 'em out and it worked great.

Seeing as the tutorial is text-based, would it be too hard for edit that page and remove them fron the tutorial? I spent a good two hours banging my head against the wall on this one.

Hi Ryan,

We are working on a video tutorial for the new version!

Interestingly enough, I'm not able to get the dynamic CC field to work, using the same 'emailname' field I used in the dynamic from email field. Are there any known issues with this CC field? My workaround is just to create a new email with that person in the To line.

Is there any documentation on the syntax of these fields? For example, when I try to mix other verbiage in the dynamic subject line, the email ceases to function. I assume I don't have it quite right, but I would gladly read a manual, if I knew where it was, isntead of bothering you guys on the forum.

Hi ryanjkirk,

As far as I know the only syntax for the dynamic fields is a field_name or a comma separated list of field names e.g. field_name1, field_name2

There is no manual. Max and I create tutorials when we can find time - recentlyhe's been so busy coding and adding features that I can't keep up. I find stuff out by reading the forums here, trial and error and digging in the code.

Max, that's correct, a Dynamic CC field and the form field inside. Not even sure how to go about troubleshooting it. I just copied the field name from the 'From Email' field, which does work.

aha, remove the dynamic from email field now and add a new static "from email" field with "admin@admin.com", I don't think you can CC the same from email!
