Email Setup: Dynamic To: No field values

iamplatinum 03 Oct, 2008
I upgraded to 3.0. I did not use the forms wizard. Just copied in my HTML and other code.

In the Forms Management -- Setup Email ---There are no fields shown under the dynamic parameters such as under the "Dynamic To"

There are four Form Field Names shown under the AutoGeneratedCode Tab. So they are there.

What am I doing wrong? How do I correct this.

Hi iamplatinum,

after copying the HTML you need to setup emails, first click add email then drag the necessary email elements, what is the problem you are facing with this ? all fields are empty by default of course!

My understanding is that in the dynamic parameters, such as "Dynamic To" the field names should appear for selection -- am I wrong?
If I am wrong, what do I type in the Dynamic To box for a field name of "fromemail?"
Do I type in?
fromemail
{fromemail}
I have tried both of these and they do not work.

Thanks.

The wizard interface is alittle different than the form edit page, in the setup emails tab you will need to add any values yourself by typing it! if you have a field name called "email" which will hold the user's email address in the form then add it in the Dynamic to like this : email, no quotes or brackets or anything!

OK, I could not get it to work.

HOWEVER, I set up a second email, which actually suits my specific needs. "The Dynamic To: email" works just fine in a second email, but will not work in the first. This is OK in this case because I want to the first email sent to me (administrator) and a second and different email sent to the user email.

But this brings up a new problem, even though both emails are successfully sent and received.
A failure notice is sent to the administrator email address from the mail server stating that "The message is looping: it already has my Delivered-to line" Not sure what this means, but I can ignore it for now. (SEE BELOW. This problem is not due to Chronoforms. It was a result of an email autoresponder being turned on).

Thanks.

What did you add for the from email and from name ? you can ask your host admin for advise about this too!

Hi Iamplatimun,

'The message is looping' sounds as though you may have the same address in the 'To' and 'From' (or ReplyTo) fields.

Duh! Nevermind!

I found the problem. It was related to do with the transition into 3.0 - how we used to do things and how we are doing them with 3.0. In the previous version we set up an autoresponse to the user through the mail server, which I forgot about.

With the feature in 3.0 of being able to easily create multiple emails and messages, there is no need to do it the old way any longer. The support desk at our provider provided the clue that looping related to the autoresponder.

Kudo's to you on providing a feature rich 3.0!

Hi,

I too have a problem with DYNAMIC TO in the email setup. It works with 1 email address, but as soon as I put 2 email addresses in (separated by commas), it refuses to send the email through.
I tried putting the 2 email addresses (separated by commas) in TO in the email setup and it works.

I have also tried separating the email addresses by semicolons, add spaces behind the commas, etc. and they all wouldn't help.

One thing I also tried was to put 1 email address in TO, and passing 2 email addresses to DYNAMIC CC, and it refuses to send any email either.

Hi k3vink3vin,

dynamic fields will accept 1 field name only, for dynamic TO, you can add another Dynamic TO field to the email and add the new form field name to this one, no need to add many field names per one field only.

Hi Max,

Yes I am only passing 1 field name to DYNAMIC TO, but as soon as the field contains 2 email addresses, it refuses to send the email through.
I tried passing the field to DYNAMIC SUBJECT, and proved that the email addresses are passed correctly.

Sorry for not being able to explain it clearly.

Thanks.

Hi Max,

Problem solved, it was due to some email authentication configurations at the back end. My colleague disabled that and it's working now.
All emails go to the junk mail folder now but oh well 😟

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

got it and glad its solved, if your emails go to junk then this your domain/mail server problem, most of the mail server will fix this issue auto., so if your messages are clean then after a while they will go to inbox.

Hi, have been fiddling around with this .. er... rather esoteric .. interface, and I couldn't get DYNAMIC CC to work with normal 'To', went back to DYNAMIC TO, and that was OK - could that be the original problem?
haven't tried DYNAMIC CC with DYNAMIC TO, I'm going to stick with what works...
Great stuff, though

Hi James, the CC in general doesn't work with some mail servers config, try to use SMTP or other mailing method, other users reported the issue but after some email setup changes they managed to get it working, its something to do with the mailing method and not Chronoforms
