creating sites using chronoforms

chocbiscuit 22 Sep, 2008
Hi all,

This might be a bit off topic. I'm wanting to create a login and registration page so that users can register, login and add their own content to the site. Obviously ChronoForms can handle the creation of the forms but I'm not quite sure how the backend would work. For example if I had a "my details" link which when clicked, displays a form with the user's registration details displayed on it. These details would then be updateable. How would I got about putting this together? I'm a n00b to Joomla so I'm not sure how best to move forward with this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers again,

Hi CB,

you want this connected to the joomla users table or the username, password..etc will have their own default joomla page ? overall this solution can be done but very tricky and any mistake will make it fail, there is some limitations at the moment also however I'm trying to make it easier soon!

Hi Max,

Thanks for the reply. I deffo need to know more about how Joomla works, the books on Joomla available on amazon aren't getting good reviews as they're a bit out of date now. Where can I learn a bit more about how this works? Documentation that's available isn't great either.

I'm thinking that if i create a registration form which writes to the users table I'll need to give that user a default access level (such as manager or editor) which would then give them access to any pages that are assigned that access level. Would I be correct in thinking this?

Thanks again,

CB

Hi CB,

Creating the registration form itself with Chronoforms is not hard, however making a profile and making it editable may not be the easiest thing depending on your fields types, you will then fall into the issue that updating either the form or the users page of joomla will not update the other one, I will need to make a distinct component for that anyway soon, so keep checking, it will be the best solution to this problem!
