Can't add fields into the form Chronoform 8

Ron 10 Dec, 2024

Hello

I have been busy remaking or rebuilding chronoforms in V8.  I have lost many fields as when I press save most of the fields vanish. I do not understand what could be the problem? I am stuck making only half the form and cannot add more fields.

Please suggest a option

Thanks

Ron

Hi Ron

How many fields does your form have ? if you have more than a 100 then it may be your max_input_vars limit

Before trying to increase this value on the server, please try to add more fields but use the "Save" button to save your form (not the Quick Save), does the "Save" button overcome the problem or the problem still occurs ?

Hello Max.

As soon as I press the save button, the fields I add vanish. It is a rather large form with more than 100 fields. but I don’t know how to increase the var limit in chronoforms, but my max_var_limit is 1000. Right now, this form I have made has only 60 fields, and I have to add more, which is not possible.

 thanks

Ron

I mean this:

it's under "System information" > PHP information: administrator/index.php?option=com_admin&view=sysinfo

you did not say if they vanish regardless of using "Save" & "Quick Save" or there is a difference between the 2 buttons ?

they vanish on Save not on quick save

I have this on my php.ini as you mentioned:

max_input_time 60

max_input_vars  1000

So does using "Quick save" make you able to continue working on your form ?

Yes. With Quick save I can keep working. I had a large form made with quick save but as soon as I pressed Save half of the form vanished. This happens only in new forms that I make. But older forms that I could import work normally.

Max,

I have also encountered the same issue with recovered forms from V6 to V8. They also have a limit and do not let more fields to be added. When is the next update comming ?

Do I have to wait long ?

Thanks

Ron

I think it will be ready soon, but what about using the "Quick save" for now ? it does the job, correct ?

Max,

Quick save dose not help. Once you close the form and reopen it the added fields vanish.

Hello Max.

I have updated V8 to the latest but it does not seem to help.

Max_admin 16 Dec, 2024

Please update to v8.0.34 then go to the Settings page and enable the "Increase max fields" setting then test how it works with your form, it should fix the issue

Let me know your test results

And please take a form backup before saving the form with the new setting enabled.

Hello Max

Everything was working fine. And suddenly the situation is back again. I lost almost half of my form and cannot save any new fields. It is back to square one. This is a disaster for me.

Please help

Ron

it was working fine without the 8.0.34 update or with it, please clarify

even with the "Increase max fields" setting enabled in 8.0.34, there is still a high limit, in that case you will need to increase the max_input_vars in your PHP and then restart the web server

It worked fine with 8.0.34 update.  Everything was going fine and suddenly everything I added vanished. I have no trace of it.

Max_admin 21 Dec, 2024

do you have the "increase max fields" setting enabled or not ? how many fields did you have in the form editor before the "vanish" happened ?

I had about 200 fields and they came back to 60 instantly. I see that I can add it again now. But if it keeps happening.. I would be doomed..  I don't know why it happened. Yes I have the increase max fields enabled.

Hi Ron

I suggest that you take a form backup (copy) every while, I can add more than 200 fields here without issues with the same PHP settings, so maybe there was some error when you tried to save, but I can not know about it because I'm not able to reproduce the issue

I have the same problem. I'm using version 8.0.34 which I only installed yesterday ( I haven't used Chronoforms before). The form I'm trying to build only has 18 fields so far but I can't add any more. If I do Quick save the field seems to stay in the editor temporarily but it does not appear in preview and then when I Save it disapears completely.

I am trying to recreate a form that I had previously built using Breezing Forms but they seem to have disappeared. I need to update my website which was built on old versions of PHP and Joomla.

I'm now using PHP 8.2.21 and Joomla 5.2.2

Hi marrose

When the fields get lost, how many fields remain in the form after the save ?

Does it save correctly when you enable the "Increase max fields" under the Chronoforms8 settings page ?

marrose 26 Dec, 2024

Hi Max,

There are 17 fields remaining after the one that keeps getting lost. I have enabled the 'increase max fields'.

ok, please check the PHP setting below, in your Joomla admin area:

System > information > system information > php information > max_input_vars:

What is the value of your setting ?

marrose 27 Dec, 2024

Max_input_vars is 1000 in my setup.

I don't think the problem is anything to do with that though because I have been doing other work on rebuilding my site since I had the problem with Chronoforms and that has presumably been adding more variables and more data into the database without any problems.

I do not know what might be causing this, 1000 allows around 70 items per form here and if you enable the Increase max fields then you will be able to have much more.

can I get a temporarily admin login to test this on your website ? if yes then you can send it on the Contact page
