Chronoforms 7.0.11 update & Chronoforms 8

pgrnycomdir 23 Jul, 2023
To all:

Does anyone know what the CF 7.0.11 update is? I am not about to update something to have it 'break' on the website.

Now after working for a year with little to no support on converting all my forms to CF7 to make it work with PHP 8.x and Joomla 4.x, there is a new version. Hell, I haven't even upgrade to the PHP 8 or Joomla 4 yet!!!

BUT again, absolutely no documentation, not fully functional for Chronoforms 8.

Max, please finish one thing before starting something else! You have a decent product if you would only finish one thing before starting another. For those of us who do not program, this product gives us the ability to create nice forms and save data. Keep it simple stupid, the KISS approach and for all of us, please come out with some documentation that covers the product in full. Not a couple of videos on the common sense simple stuff.

Thank you for reading.

CF 7 is about 3 years old for now
It's kinda old and needs to be upgraded.

Every new version offered more functionality and flexibility.

I wish CF team more passion in developing the new ver.

I get the need to upgrade, and as has been pointed out CF3 is around 3 years old.

The only thing I think Max needs to consider is that imports should be seamless between versions. CF7 forms should easily import successfully into CF8.

The biggest problem with Cf6->CF8 was the inability to import. By the time CF6 was made compatible with J4, we then had CF8 released a few weeks later.

My suggestion for the future road map:
CF7 should import into CF8
CF8 should import into CF9
And so on
And so on

For information, CF6 for J4 is still a development release that can not be used for advanced apps in production mode, especially because

About CF8, it seems to me that important features of the previous versions are missing : Translation, Access control, Connectivity app (Table list, etc.), Import/Export (ideally from CF6/7/8), ability to hide/show the content of the areas and actions (which quickly gets mandatory when working on big apps).
Since CF7 has many unresolved issues, I believe it's good news that there's a new major version built on more solid basis. And I would be happy to move my apps to CF8 when will be ready (no loss of functionality nor usability compared to CE6). Unfortunately, it's not yet.
But considering that J3's end of life is August 17, the best news would be that CF6 for J4 can very soon be used in production mode for advanced applications (including file upload, calendar interactivity, autocomplete lists, etc.).
Good luck Max. You can do it !

I hope to know your opinions about the current status of v8 and which features do you think are necessary before you can use the new version
