Admin Enhancements

kavaXtreme 09 Sep, 2008
This is a GREAT component, and the tutorial is particularly helpful. ChronoConnectivity lets me use legacy data without the expense of having a component developed specifically for that purpose... which lets me pass savings on to my clients. I love the balance between power, flexibility and ease of use.

Here are a few suggestions for improvements based on my use so far:
- Sortable columns for the admin data view (defaulting to sort by the first column. This seems to be a fairly common feature in the Joomla admin view of tables, so hopefully not too hard to implement.)
- Search filter for admin data view
- Use the edit form to also add new records
- Ability to add Admin menu items, similar to ChronoForms

Basically this would enhance ChronoConnectivity's ability to manage all data from the Joomla backend when frontend data input isn't required.

Thanks again for a great component!

Thanks, yes sure those are necessary features, I will try to add them very soon.

Max:

I concur with the list of enhancements suggested in this thread. The "add a new record" suggestion was on the top of my list that I had created.

I have two additional suggestions also.

First, after editing a record, when the list of records is displayed again, it would be nice to return to the same "page" of the list. For example, if I am editing records on the third "page" in the list, having to navigate from first page to another page in between each record is extra effort.

Second, it would be nice to have a way to give a manager just access to the "Show data" link. I want her to be able to add, edit and delete records, but I don't want her to be able to change the code that gives her this capability. This may require a separate module or something to give her just the equivalent of the "Show data" link.

BTW, after we finish a little more tweaking, we will probably provide a copy of what we put together as an example that you can post for others to see.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

Thank you for the suggestions, actually the tweaks above are almost all done + too many more, as I needed them in a recent project, I will see whats the problem with the pagination yes, I have observed it, I will also add some frontend management as you suggest before a new release is out!
