unwanted links in form results

How do I prevent folks entering url or links in text field and textarea of a form. Lately I've been getting form results that basically had links to other websites, some of them unpalatable, with no useful data.

maybe a custom JS validation function ? or a more powerful PHP one and use it in the server side validation ?
