Sticky message from Max

walterbz 16 Aug, 2022
Hi all,
I'm concerned about the message that I read in this pages. It's the second time this year.
I'm a happy user of Chronoforms (all paid versions).
I'm starting a big new project with CF7 but I'm not sure if the project will be continued. Every time I come here I expect to find the site closed or the project abandoned.
Am I the only one with these concerns?
Is Max the only developer?
Is there a way to help him?
Thanks
Walter

No, You are not the only one...
Max is the only developer.

I'm not sure that it is reasonable to begin a bew project including CF7... Because Joomla 5 is already announced.
Maybe Max can bring us some assurances. But what confidence can we have in them?

I don't know... Sorry for my pessimism.

Hello,

you're really not the only one worried about your projects programmed with CF and CC.
Finding an alternative now would probably mean recreating all forms with different components or your own knowledge.
The effort will definitely be huge and take a lot of time. I haven't found a real alternative yet.
In order to keep the effort as low as possible and to make the CF/CC code compatible for Joomla 4 and further updates, my only idea so far is to adapt the CF/CC 6 versions so that they work for the times to come.
So it would be really very helpful while this forum is still online:
If someone is very familiar with CF/CC 6 and has perhaps already found a compatible solution for working in Joomla 4 in the meantime, it would be a real help for all users to make their code available. For a reasonable price, of course.
I'll admit I can't update the code, but there's bound to be someone here on the forum who can. I think there are very many users who would use CF/CC 6 update for Joomla 4 and further versions. The programmer would have quickly recouped his costs for the effort.

That's just my personal suggestion. There may be other suggestions. However, time is very short, because the current CF/CC version has made the urgent switch to Joomla 4 impossible.

Many greetings
Fred

Hello

I had started the adaptation of CF6/CC6 under Joomla 4 + PHP8.
After many efforts, I managed to install CF6/CC6 under J4/PHP8, then to edit/display my forms.
But at the time of the execution an error solved hid a new one, so that after a while, I understood that I would have done more quickly to rewrite my forms directly in CF7.
The work involved is enormous for the person who did not design the application.
Even the developer has given up on adapting CF6 for J4+PHP8 and said that he has no intention of creating a tool for retrieving CF6/CC6 forms.

Hi all,
Indeed Max said the v6>7 import was planned (#394630) but it was 2 years ago. By considering that J3 has less than one year to go, somehow, that means giving up. So good luck everybody for the rewriting work.
Hopefully these sticky messages will not show up anymore, at least not to discourage the CF community and not to scare the project holders. None of this can be good to the mental.
Wishing you a good recovery Max

Like everyone here, we have been using CC6 for years and have yet to find an alternative that even does half of what CC does. I have only decided to look at CF7 this week, and it indeed can do most that CC6 can do, and so we have begun recreating our CC in CF7. I'll try to chip in on the forums if anyone has query or needs help.

From the sticky message, Max really need help but it's unlikely that any of us here can reach him. Mental health issues are not something that is easy to cope or help with. We can only hope someone near or close to him manage to get him the help he needs.

Hi

I have recreatad all my forms CC6/CF6 with CF7. It's possible, but not really easy. There are a few bugs. And yoiu need many times!
But I think like webbusteruk: CF6+CC6 (or CF7) are the most full.

I fear this is where it ends. Max is mentally ill and urgently needs help. If he ever recovers one still has to wait if he will be able to pick up ChronoEngine again. My advise: find an alternative. They exist.

The sticky message is gone. Maybe now we understand a little better who is ChronoEngine. Aside from that, I do not think these messages can bring anything good. Hopefully chronoengine.com will not display that again.

Alternatives exist for simple forms editing. But I do not see any that can mix advanced listings (including filters, sorting, CSV export, etc.) with highly customizable & user-friendly forms. I don't see any that allows relations between custom data-tables and the Joomla framework (permissions, custom fields, etc.) to be articulated so simply. And I don't see any that does it in such an affordable way, while openly sharing so useful resources.
To me, only the development of custom Joomla components can do all that in such complete and flexible ways. With CF we can get the same result much faster & easier. This extension is a jewel. Let's keep it !

Most of us developers can't mentally help Max directly. But at least we can offer to help him making CF7 match the needs of the CF users. If CF gets back on the right track, hopefully that will help the mind.

Hi guys

@shiluba: I agree...
webbusteruk 25 Aug, 2022
Agreed with what shiluba said.

Chronoforms is not just a form making Joomla extension, it does way, way more than that. We have looked at other extensions and nothing offers the flexibility, customisability, and simplicity of Chronoforms. The only alternative is coding everything ourselves in Joomla's framework (essentially creating a custom Joomla component) - which is a huge task and time-consuming.

It's difficult when the whole development rests on a single person, but until there's a viable alternative, we will support Max however we can.
