Joomla articles can have a set published date of the author's choosing. Is there a way to send an email to alert a user or group of users that the article has been published?

One way would be to use a Cron job on the site to run a form once a day. The form would need to check the articles table for publishing dates and send appropriate emails if any are found set to the current day.
