ChronoForums and Helix Ultimate

614cooker 11 Jan, 2022
Hello I just want to get some advice before I purchase a subscription. Does anyone know if the Chronoforums works with the current Helix Ultimate template just I installed kunena and I have had over a week of issues with it only to find out its not bootstrap 5 compatible. I have since tried changing the template to Purity only to have issues with that template as well and because my website is a live website with a very large userbase I dont want to change the design. So I have decided not to use Kunena and to look for a forum which does work with Helix but I also dont want to keep installing different components and messing with my website as you would understand.

So is Chronoforums compatible with Helix Ultimate and has anyone had any experience with helix and Chronoforums.

Thanks, Matt.

I made the error of purchasing a subscription before thoroughly testing with Helix Ultimate. Chronoforums seems to work ok, but if you want to edit or move a post, no dice. I have a question about that in this forum, but was not able to get it resolved.

Thank you sushidog i think alot of people are having issues with the helix template I am just going to scrap it and change the template to purity which will also be more compatible for my users as it uses bootstrap 3, My website is based on older generation of games as well as new so I am having to cater for older browsers. Im also not happy at all that the support for helix by the developers is basically none existent and blames the component developers when its the helix template that is the problem. Anyone had any issues with purity III for compatibility.

I know this response is late. I use Helix Ultimate and customize the template. My CF6 forms are all separate articles and it has worked perfect from the start. I've never tried to use the forms as module within a page though.

Helix Ultimate and Chronoforms 6 (SIX! Previous version!) Worked together pretty well, I used them together on several sites. BUT

BUT

As long as Joomla went to version 4 and you're supposed to use php 8, i would NOT recommend you to use Chronoforms anymore. Version 6 doesn't work with php 8, and version 7 is sooooo bad and buggy, it almost feels like some kind of developer version sent to testers to grab all possible bugs.

So, if you look a bit forward and don't want to use outdated versions right out of the box - don't expect too much from CF7.

The reason CF 7 came out was because CF 6 will NOT work with Joomla 4.x and PHP 8.x.

CF 6 was not intended to work with Joomla 4.x and PHP 8 which is why Chronoforms 7.0 came out!

@pgrnycomdir

But in CF7 there is SO MUCH slashed down! SO much functions are gone, the logic is totally changed and I wouldn't say it's ANY BETTER than it was in CF6. Now it's just f**ing broken. Right now I'm on the fence - should I just code my own modules for each form I need with plain bootstrap forms and simple logic behind it in php, or test some other form builders like Shack Form, RSForm, Breezing form - you name it.

@gix.vax

In post that you've linked there is single message from admin, who has some installer, but no way to download that installer and test it.

I've personally updated to J4, and CF6 was the only component that was bleeding with errors after update, both front and backend. All I could do was to uninstall it.

This particular site doesn't give ANY even very basic docs on using / migrating CF6->CF7

If you install CF7 and try to see "Cheat-codes" - even that button doesn't work because of some JS conflicts with J4 jquery or whatever.

On forum there WERE search and images uploads in past, but now all these gone, and if you meet any error (and you CERTAINLY WILL), you can just desperately scroll pages, reading topic titles hoping that you meet something similar. Spending hours after hours.

Seriously, I used to love CF6, but currently it seems like abandoned project with minimum viability. Would be stupid to base any new project on such a piece of code.

@artsapiens, you need to use the contact page to get the new J4 CF6 installer, it's in the testing phase.

The new forums still do not have a search function, I'm trying to get this done soon, for now you can use Google:
site:chronoengine.com search words here

The next CF7 update should fix the issue you mentioned.

I'm perfectly informed about google search possibilities. I used it as well, but it seems forums are not indexed well, or was emptied, and even if I find description of problem, there is no ANSWERS or solutions offered. Just crying users who can't do something in CF7 what was perfectly realized in CF6.

(I've dropped you a note via contact form)

I will try to add the search feature back soon, and you may use v6 if you are not comfortable with v7, v7 is more complex than v6 but it gives you more possibilities.

I sent you the installer.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that CF7 gives MORE possibilities, all I see is a LOT of functions are GONE from actions comparing to CF6. Even simpliest if/else (or switch/case) logic now impossible to implement. Lack of documentation also makes me feel like walking in deep unknown forest, with almost anything requiring lots of trials and fails.

I'm not sure where to write, so I'll put it here. CF6 that you've provided doesn't work with my forms (backed up from prod J3 side as .cf6bak and restored to test J4 site)

Errors seem to be related to "Database - Read Data" action

Can you post a screenshot of your Read Data settings ?

I already wiped out CF6 from J4 test site, but here how it looks on production (J3):
